Audience Stereo Upgrade

Featured Replies

Has anyone onhere got this? What sort of quality is it, especially with the 12 speakers?

As the Elegance & L&K comes standard with the 6 disc autochanger in the boot did this still come when you spec'd the Audience?

Yep have the Audience system in mine, sounds alright to me, I presume I have the 12 speakers (not sure how to tell :o )

No Autochanger in the boot though, just 6 disc changer in the dash :)

Strange how they can justify

You can play MP3's on the Audience system as well.

Still only done 300 miles in ours so not really played with the stereo much, sounds nice though. I know you could probably buy a very nice stereo setup for the

The speakers are easy to spot there are three in each door, you can't miss them.

Excellent Sound System IMHO

I think the 12 speaker system is just about the best factory system ive heard. The extra addition is not just the speakers, these are powered by an additional amplifier.

That makes me feel better, at least I know what I am getting for my money now!! ;)

I tried to add the audience head unit to my Octy order because I wanted the mp3 feature but you can no longer have it without the speaker system, which I think is to much dosh. I've now decided to go down the ipod route intergrating it with stream unit using a dension adapter which should allow me to use the multifunction wheel to control the ipod.

If this had been an option on the Furby I'd have had it.

I'll have spent well over a grand to get my sound system up to scratch... :thumbdwn:

Will sound lovely though when its done!:rolleyes:

I've got the upgrade to audience and speakers. It's a good sounding system, has a few niggles but my main problem is door rattle from the bass. IMO the door casings have not been deadened in line with the additional power of the speaker system as a pro after market fitter would do.

Definitely worth it :)

You might have solved my problem!!!!

I was just about to Post a question as to how I connected an Ipod to a Stream radio. So what is the "dension adaptor"? Where do I get one? How much does it cost and how do I fit it?

Thanks in advance if you can answer these questions

Cheers

Dension Ice>link Plus Details. The Octy 2 is not listed but I emailed Dension and they informed me that if you get the ice link for the VW RCD 300 head unit, this will also fit the stream. :)

Thanks - I checked out their web site. One major problem is that I read in the FAQ's is that when the Dension is fitted to the radio it disables the CD player. So no one can use the CD player unless you remove the Dension component - hardly practical and to me a show stopper.

Anyone know of any systems that don't disable the CD player.

Crazy thing is that all you really need is a line-in connector because generally I would select a favourite playlist and don't really need to see the title info etc. when driving. Amazing in 2005 that Radio manufacturers can't install a simple line-in connector - would cost next to nothing.

Hi ExPatman,

You should find that the Stream unit has an "Aux" input, so you can coonect the iPod to this - you may have to enable this in the Radio menu.

Cheers,

John.

Any idea where the Aux input is located?

It's a selling gimmick Lummox. 12 speakers will make it a loud system, but it doesn't make it a surround system since the disc players are 5.1 surround encoded with 5 analog outs and a sub. Completely unnecessary to have 12 speakers IMHO. But it's kinda cool to go around saying 'I've got 12 speakers in my car!'

I think you'll find that this is a hands free telephone input.

It should only disable the six disc autochanger in the boot as you're obviously using it's connections. I would think that the disc in the head unit should still work.

Sorry I was just going by what my ears tell me having sat in both. Its not the ammount of speakers that make the difference, its the positioning of them. The std speaker set up sticks the mid driver in the back of the door do it fires at the seat and your side. Having the 12 speaker system moves the sound stage forward and improves quality.

...having the 12 speaker system moves the sound stage forward and improves quality...

Quality of audio? No. Quality of perception by the human ear? Yes.

If it was 12.1 surround you were talking about then I would totally agree. However, not having reached that level of technology yet, and without having a surround sound decoder in the car (yet alone the manufacture of CDs with 5.1 surround sound encoding), it remains to be conventional stereo. Two tracks, left and right.

If you're gonna make an investment for such an upgrade, I would like to recommend you check in with a professional car audio specialist and ask if there are any 5.1 surround decoders available for vehicles, which would include DVD players. You can therefore, have a proper 5.1 surround system in your car.

Mil, I feel you are missing the point a little.

The idea is that the soundstage is improved, and the speakers give a much nicer "sound environment", literally filling the car with a much warmer sound. The Audience system also has extra amplification which not only adds to volume, but to fidelity. For most people, it sounds excellent, and is definitely a considerable step-up from standard.

However, it is unlikely to please the audiophile, who would probably appreciate a higher quality 2.1 setup for perfect imaging. It is unlikely that a car manufacturer will spend huge amounts of cash perfecting what would be a very expensive system to please a very small minority of customers.

If your into your stereo, lets face it, whatever is supplied will not be good enough! Theres no such thing as perfect kit!

Hi Expatman,

Just checked this out - for Radio "Stream" , "Audience" & "Melody" there is both aux input and telephone input.

Multipin Connector C

Pin 5 Input signal audio -ve

Pin 11 Input signalaudio +ve

Pin 6 Input signal tel -ve

Pin 12 Input signal tel +ve

Hope that clears it up. :)

Great - now how do I tap into those pins on the connector, and where is the access to the connector?

I've been trying to find out how to connect my mp3 player to the audience unit for ages (dont like burning CDs as the audience mp3 navigation /display is poor).

Two questions

- Surely you need more than 1 +ve and one -ve for an aux stereo source.

- how do you enable or select the aux input, nothing in the manual or any of the setup options

Cheers
