Modifying Outlook Reply action

Featured Replies

Calling all Outlook geeks:

At work we have to put 'Internet-Authorised:' in the subject line of any email which is bound for external addresses, it was relatively easy to create a button which does this automatically for New messages but the problem now is that when replying to an external message it needs to be put in manually otherwise the email gets bounced by the gateway.

So in short - How do I modify the Reply button to add 'Internet-Authorised:' to the beginning of the emails subject line?

Thanks in advance

Is there not a simple macro you can create?

I'm certainly no expert!

Probably is actually - although I don't know if VBA is permitted, I'm going to have a play now.

why do you have to put that in the subject? seems a bit of a strange thing to do.

My work (MoD) have that system too, we have various levels on internal mail such as restricted,confidential,restricted-staff,restricted-commercial and internet authorised, all, apart from internet authorised, get bouced back off the IGS if it is sent to an external address .

I believe its almost a type of contract, when you put internet-authorised in the subject line, this is the companies way of saying "You ok'd it so youre fired" if something goes wrong

The IGS accounts look for that in the subject box to allow it to pass through.

surely if you have access to send external emails and they've set the smtp gateway to allow you to send email externally then you've already signed some sort of email policy?

It's used as a way to route messages either internally on the Intranet or Externally via IGS accounts.

Typical MOD though - an extra level of complication! It isn't too much of a problem.

I have now written a VBA macro to do what I wanted and I've submitted it to the IM team so it may get distributed to other users. It wasn't too tricky in the end but I wasn't that familiar with the Outlook Object Model.

If anyone wants a copy of the code (and implementation instructions) PM me with your email and I'll send it.
