Advise needed - throttle body ?

Featured Replies

Hi there basically I would just like a bit of advise on cleaning the throttle body/ butterfly valve as I'm sure I read that they need resetting if unplugged or something on those lines , also there's another sensor in the rubber pipe after the throttle body do I need to clean that and how , would be great if someone could throw some light on this ,also I have a post on breather pipes called "help needed on breather pipes under inlet" , if someone could reply to that , that would be helpfull to , thank you all , Marc.

There's a guide on here complete with pictures on how to clean the throttle body, just do a search.. Basically, don't disconnect the sensor and won't need to worry :)

I left mine plugged in, still easy to clean.

I'm a complete novice when it comes to mechanics and vrs stuff, but I cleaned mine the other day and its very simple and effective. Leave it plugged in, still plenty of room to spray the carb cleaner and wipe it out.

Make sure you put something over the inlet and boost pipe to stop anything falling inside!

A latex glove or something,as it will be a massive avoidable pain in the arse to retrieve anything especially if you drop it into the inlet and it finds its way into the engine

Make sure that if you do the brick on the throttle trick to open the butterfly that you use a toothbrush to clean it as if the brick falls and the butterfly closes is hurts,

a lot! :D

if you unplug the sensor that is no issue , just disconnect battery when you start and re connect when you finish, the ecu will re learn itself.

This is the condition of the throttle asm after complete removal

It was well coked up.

I used a screwdriver handle to open up butterfly and push in place to keep open whilst i cleaned it.

A clean with carb cleaner and a polish had it clean in no time.

Look similar to the MAF sensor which I also cleaned)no pic of that through)

all cleaned and ready to go back on

The result is smoother low down revs and no hesitation

Thanks for all your help , exactly what I was looking for !!

If anything, you'd do better to disconnect it. Purely so it can go through it's auto adaptation once plugged back in again.
