HID - technical question

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I'm not an expert in car electronics, and I would really need someone to tell me if my idea would work or not.

I've got a 2003 Octavia mk1 with factory fitted xenons, but it comes with low-beam only (H1 high-beam), and I'm really missing the bi-xenon feature.

My thinking is, that as all the wiring is set up already, I would just need a pair of bi-xenon projectors which can fit into the place of the OEMs' and it would probably work as a straight swap. The control unit doesn't know about the new feature of course, but as far as I'm concerned it doesn't really need to...

I'm thinking of patching the new projectors' solenoids' wires into the OEM full-beam halogen wiring, so when I push the stalk into full-beam mode it would automatically activate them and keep them on while it's getting the extra voltage, going for the H1 originally.

As I understand the hid bulb uses the same current in both modes, it's just the cutoff shield which gets lifted in full-beam.

So can this be as easy as this? Swapping projectors and tapping into 2 wires?

Cheers
