Retrofit Navigation

Featured Replies

I'm changing from my mk2 VRS to a mk3 next week. The new car is a showroom car so is base spec which I'm fairly happy with on the whole but with one exception - it has no sat nav. On the current VRS I have added a Kenwood DNX521 Dab head unit which was a bolt in job. This looks a LOT harder on the mk3. Does anyone know if any sat nav upgrades are possible as a retrofit? If not now, then maybe in the future?

I think the problem you'll have is that the touch screen controls more than just the audio and sat nav. Unless Skoda do something like the Kenwood unit that was specially designed to fit, I think you'll be stuck with an OEM unit.

Cant he retrofit one of the higher-end units later on?

Don't know, it depends on what else is required as well as the head unit itself to get it working. If it's possible, it may be the only option..

Where there is a will there is a way I guess! If nothing else, I'm sure Kenwood or pioneer will make some kind of upgrade for the mk3 in time. Afterall, if there is a hole in the dash and power surely we'll be able to put something in there?

The idea of swapping bits out to upgrade to an Amundsen isn't too scary as long as its possible I guess.
