Which fuel filter?

Featured Replies

Have recently purchased a 55 plate Octavia MkII 2.0 TDI DSG Tourer in the Elegance trim.

The car has been perfect until last night - see here - http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/243533-the-mr-muscle-vnt-turbo-treatment-thought-we-needed-a-guide-of-sorts/

So am thinking as the fuel filter seems to be a possible issue I might as well replace that, just to make sure that it is not a cause now or in the future. However, I have gone on the Opie Oils site and they are listing 3 possible fuel filters a KX178D 140mm high, KX220D 136mm high and KX228D 116mm high.

How do I know which I need? Is there a clue on the filter housing?

Am not afriad to get my hands dirty although by no means am I a professional spanner wielder either.

Thanks in advance

Take yours out and measure it?

The fuel filter sizing is very odd, it's not linked by VIN number so you can't look up the one you need. Visual inspection will be easiest.

Probably silly questions but what if the previous garage got it wrong? Will only 1 fit?

It does at least look as though the cover has been off at some time, although difficult to tell how recently. The torx screw in the centre of the cover doesn't look in the best of condition either.

Thanks for your help

Just checked service history and shows fuel filter was last changed 7k miles ago so that shouldn't be the cause of my no turbo problem from yesterday evening? Car is showing 2700 miles to next service on start up.

Guess am going to have to try the Mr Muscle remedy. Doesn't look easy on my motor to do from the top though. I think I have the EGR cooler on the rear of the engine above the Turbo, which makes it difficult to get to the inlet manifold and to the actuator.

There are up to 3 filters.  A quick mail to

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/The-Skoda-Parts-Shop

with your VIN number should get you a good price on a genuine one.

Thanks

I'll add them to my favourite sellers list.

Have found a site that details which filter I need. Shows an image of each of the possible housings and then details which genuine filter fits and gives the part number.

I'll add it when I find it again, I saved the site onto a different machine at work, but will hopefully be handy for anyone else with a similar problem.

They changed the filter housing September 2005 and then again with the facelift. Doesn't help mine is a Sept '05 car.
