Sad times

Featured Replies

Well peeps it has been a few weeks since I posted on here.  What a time I have had.  I got this thing called 'labrithitis' at the start of August, it is some inner ear imbalance and is pure horrific as in you find it hard to stand as the room is constantly spinning. Well Dr said I was not meant to drive like that which is very understandable, but I saw him the other day and he did some checks on me and said I am not meant to drive for another 4 weeks now :(   I told work about this and they said they have had to let me go, so from earning £120 a day to now claiming which is going to work out at £101.20p per week!  Plus my Girlfriend had a horrid thing happen the other week and without going in to great details but it was a bit of a hit for both of us. Cossie 1 has been excellent as was meant to buy his exhaust as I wanted to upgrade mine, very understanding bloke.  So it may look like my Octy VRS may have to go up for sale or swap with a diesel low insurance car......I would like to stick with Skoda now after being so impressed with my VRS......Took me ages to find one with fully stamped Skoda history and now I may have to sell, but going to try my best and keep her.  Anyway, that is my little update.

I feel for u m8. Ive had it twice in the last 4 years and its bloody horrible. My doc was really good though and got it under control with tablets straight away and within a week I was back driving again on both occasions. Hope u get things sorted sooner or later.

Sorry to hear of your current misfortunes.

Things can only get better from now on, its important for you both to look for and focus on the positives in each of your lives.

Remember you still have each other  .

Good Luck

Bad times mate..I feel for you.

I'm about to have my hours cut drastically..and having two kids to support its not going to be great.

(Wife works part time)

Things could be a lot lot worse...so chin up.

Sorry to hear this.

Are any competitors hiring?

Thanks guys.

I will try and keep my chin up!   There is a demolition company that said they would be interesting in meeting me and salary matching at £120 a day but they are based 104 miles away and most of the work is around that area.  I will deffo' be getting another Octy if I cant afford to run mine, I will get a diesel one.  I am so impressed with mine, ideal in every way for what I need a car for.  Although I wonder what MPG diesels give as my VRS returns 32MPG around town and 38MPG on a run........Not bad for a car that can hit 60 in mid 7's and a top speed of 145mph, that is one thing the diesel will not be able to give, the same performance!.

Diesel will match that easy peasy

Few hybrid fabias for sale on here

They will do 145mph

Possibly even sub 7s to 60

And get 50+ mpg

Petrol is about dead

Seriously......That is fast!   My price range is 2k max though so a bit out of my price range :(

Keep the VRS and get LPG fitted. The vag 1.8T is a brilliant engine for LPG. Hope you get good news soon though as I know how it feels.

That s*cks. Hope they'll be able to find a remedy to this. At the end of the day it's only a car so if it has to go don't let it complicate things. You lost your job after you declared a new illness. Sounds like unfair dismissal

That's bad news.  Hope you're on the mend.

Before getting my vRS and test drove (and nearly bought) a Laurin & Klement TDI 130 with the six speed 'box.  It did about 42 mpg in similar situations where I can get 32mpg from the vRS.  What put me off the TDI was all the possible problems you can have with a diesel; at higher mileages the petrol engines seem to be more reliable (touch wood).  Personally, I'd be tempted to keep the car you know rather than risking buying something unknown that might need hundreds spending on it.  The cost of a couple of repairs on a new car could easily be far more than the savings in fuel.

If you still fancy a different, more economical car, I'd be tempted by a Fabia Elegance TDi.  They have the 100bhp engine (easily chipped to match the Fabia vRS power, which would then match - if not beat - a standard Octy vRS) plus they're less likely to have been hammered and they cost far less than a vRS yet the Elegance specification is superb, especially one after the 2005 facelift (round foglights rather than square) - heated seats, cruise control, air conditioning, alloy wheels (albeit diddy 14" ones - cheap on tyres though), front fog lights, remote boot release on key.  Plus they cost hardly anything to insure or tax.  Get one in a nice colour and they look quite smart, even as standard:  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Skoda-Fabia-1-9TDI-PD-100bhp-Elegance-2005-Diesel-/380702654807?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item58a3a58157  You can even get an estate if you need loads of space.

Hope you get sorted soon, both work and health wise.
