Normal to get warning lights after disconnecting/reconnecting Can Gateway?

Featured Replies

After disconnecting and reconnecting my Can Gateway, I have the following warning lights displayed:

Steering Wheel (I have a MFSW)

Air Bag

Skid (ESP)

Is this normal?

Does it just need resetting by someone with a VCDS or a visit to a helpful dealer?

Thanks

What colour is the steering wheel light?

A short drive may reset the steering and esp lights, otherwise there is a reset procedure you can do which should work.

For the airbag you need VCDS or a dealer. A dealer will charge you though.

You usually get these after disconnecting the battery, taking the car for a short drive should help.

Thanks guys.

I forgot to say the air bag light was on before anyway - I've currently got the glove box removed (passenger airbag disconnected) while I do some work with the head unit.

I will try a short drive as you've suggested, hopefully the other two lights will go off.  Once I've got glove box back, and stereo sorted, I will get air bag light extinguished by some kind soul with VCDS.

If just driving it around doesn't make the lights go out, try this procedure.

Good News, the two lights went off after a brief drive  :whew:

I'd have been worried all night if it hadn't been for this forum - thank you.

Did you have the ignition on at all, during the procedure?

Certainly for when disconnecting the airbag deactivation switch while the glovebox is out, I don't touch the ignition until that's plugged back in. Just cuts down on the number of potential errors, fault codes and lights.
