SAI Pump - advice needed

Featured Replies

Alright guys,

For a little while I have been getting the loud squeal on cold start-up which as i understand it is symptomatic of the rivets starting to disintegrating on the SAI Pump. From my research I am aware that the SAI is there for cold start emissions and is largely superfluous beyond this, but that removal or malfunction will result in a CEL being thrown.

I am aware that the SAI can be removed as part of the evap system tidy up process but to be honest, i don't want to be chopping bits out if i can avoid it, and its a bit above my level of expertise. I also don't much fancy replacing it when it does go pop, as i understand they're rather expensive.

I am planning on a remap in the next few months and this has gotten me wondering. I am aware that the SAI failure/not present CEL can be mapped out. As such, i am thinking of getting the SAI CEL mapped out and disconnecting the electrical power to the SAI itself, preventing the pump from powering on at ignition.

Is anyone aware of any reason why this would not work, or of any negative impact that it might have on vehicle performance/MOT emissions etc?

Only reason i ask is because the only solutions i have ever read to this problem are to replace/repair the pump itself or do the full delete.

Thanks for the help

I got my old pump if you need a replacement!

From a 05 car,did 58k when it was removed!

How well do you think the car is going to run if the pipework is connected, yet due to the pump being disabled the vacuum won't move...

Repair it. It's not difficult.
