Skoda Superb Engine question

Featured Replies

post-95097-0-23504200-1378377206_thumb.pngHey guys, I have a 2009 2.0 TDi PD Skoda Superb. Does anyone know what part of the engine the red arrow is pointing at in the picture? What is it called and what does it do?

This is not the actual picture of my engine, just one i found online, but has the same part on the engine which i wanted the name for.

I want to know this as the cover on this part keeps coming loose on my car, and i think it's because one of the latches is slightly chipped. Or does anyone know better, for example is it a common occurance. Also, would it be ok to put some tape or string around it to stop it coming loose, or should I locate another cover?

Sorry for all the questions and thanks!

That's the air intake, before it goes to the air filter.

Ahh thank you! can you or anyone else answer my other questions?

As Huskoda says, it's the air intake.

It's common that they are loose. Even when the clips are intact it can be loose. The "loose-ness" commonly results in a rattle at low (1400 to 1500ish) rpm which can be a really annoying noise in the cabin.

It's a well known issue and if you take it to the dealer they should 'glue' all of the bits of the air intake together with some removable gunk. Ten minute job. Problem sorted.

Hope that helps....

Ok thanks, so will the dealer do this free of charge seeing as we haven't got warranty on the car covered by Skoda? Also, to anyone who can answer this, if it comes loose, can it cause slight acceleration problems, because i have noticed the car does this a few times? And it's not as if i was in the wrong gear or anything, it's like something i experienced with my previous car which was misfiring. I'm sure this car isn't misfiring, because there's no warning light and the acceleration hesitation issues haven't been any where near as frequent as it was on my old car. As i say, this has only happened about 3 times.

You could probably secure it just as well or use a local Indy. If you don't have warranty then they will charge you.

As it is on the non engine side you could could try running with it removed to see if it makes a difference. The filter is in the way so shouldn't cause any damage running it open.
