Wiper puller - which one?

Featured Replies

The first one has an upper limit of 28mm....as long as the wiper hub is not bigger than that it'll do the trick. There are no dimensions on the second one so I'd give it a miss.........you might end up having to send it back.

Whatever you do get a puller of some description. Don't be tempted to try and lever the wipers off like I did........and crack the windscreen in the process!

Yeah I am trying

Been mess around by one seller already

I used a wiper puller from halfords. It broke and I still haven't got the wiper off

Do you have a motor factors nearby? You'd probably be able to buy one from there for a similar price to ebay.

whats a good penetrating fluid to help release the arms?

wd40 is rubbish

Are you trying the front or rear?

Been trying to get my rear one off for a while but no success. I had a wiper puller but it the shaft was starting to break before the wiper came loose.

I'm wanting to swap it for a Polo wiper so might just take a dremel to the standard one.

Funny, that was why I tried to get mine off.

I wish I watched the autoglass guy when he replaced my trashed windscreen.....he removed the wiper arms, but I don't know how.

Sounds like something a bit more heavy duty is needed.....a small 3 leg puller surely would have it off.

That stuff is more like it, always use something like that at beginning, using WD-40 will only wet the rust and stop the real stuff being "drawn" in. I have a puller like the top one, but a bit stronger as that one looks like its jaws are only bent metal. The important thing is to get one that has that extra knurled bit at the top as you really need to get the "reach" correct and the "spread" correct, you can only get that from using one like the top one. Using proper 3-arm pullers is no good as you can not locate all 3 arms. When working on the rear wiper arm, you will always crush/destroy the end of the spray bar if using a puller.

Doing the rear on a MK1 Fabia is a doddle just remove the plastic spray jet first

from the centre (It just pulls out out of the middle of the assembly) and then

you can use the puller. The first time I did one I didn't and I crushed the plastic bit in

the middle. However you can buy a spare from Skoda but they are surprisingly

expensive at £6 odd (when I bought mine).

My puller is the same as the first link btw, it's chunkier than it looks.

Yeah

I have it all sorted now

Goes with a bang with the corrosion gives up

Think I am sorted but times will tell

If I loose the wiper on the motorway I know it's wrong lol

I made my own pullers. Works a treat. I'll get a pic if anyone is interested??

Yes please :)

Yes please :)

As requested! Its pretty simple but it works perfectly. I could not get off my front wipers no matter what I did. 2 mins with this had them both off. It cost me nothing to make as the bits of steel were lying about and I have all the tools.
