Nissan Primera GT

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of selling the Golf. I just dont know enough about cars, and its being a right PITA to be honest, the amount of things that seems to be going wrong with it just isnt funny any more.

So.... I noticed that Nissan Primera GT's are going very very cheap these days, what are these like? Are they a safe bet? For example, there is one going for

Very reliable, and simply "nice" car in my experience. I know ColinD also had one before the skud (so you'll follow it with an Octavia 4x4 in a few years if we're anything to go by :D).

With any car that old your mileage may, of course, vary but if its had regular oil changes then I'd say it's likely to be mechanically sound.

Chain CAM as well :)

Just beware..

Primera GT's like any mundano sized "sri" car is likely to have had its nuts screwed off it by reps..

Speaking about mundanos.. have you thought about one of those? you could get a 2.0 Si or even a st24 for under 1k now..

It's a Nissan so expect it to be pretty bulletproof (we couldn't kill any of our Micra's despite racking up over 35k a year in them :D). Just do usual checks for FSH, rust, etc :D

Chris

35k a year in a Micra - ouch that's a bit much. That car is smaller than the Fabia.

(don't get me wrong, the Micra IS a great car for certain jobs, and it's very reliable, and actually not bad at all on motorways either IIRC having been in one a few years ago)

My neighbours have a Nissan Primera and they are very pleased with it too. In my previous company we had them as pool cars and they were good. Should be absolutely fine, well-built, handle ok too, and can take the mileage too.

from what ive heard the primera is an excellent handling car. like it has been said above colinD im sure had one :)

how much are you wanting for the golf ;)

I did once have one yes.

I'd have another tomorrow.

The only negatives in my mind now today are:

Only 150bhp

Boot

What you can do to them...for a car sold on the back of touring car success there is little to pep them up.

On the positive side, they are bleeding fantasic handling cars, responsive and fun.

Comfortable seats, SWMBO still prefers it to the Octy.

Seen a few around recently on autotrader, I'd almost consider one again, but for different purposes to road use ;)

I used to know a guy who had one. Seemed decent enough. As already said, only 150hp, so not massively fast, but certainly not a slow car.

150bhp is a decent amount of power I think. There are slower cars out there. :D

But I agree with the lack of tuneability - If it was a 150bhp little turbo petrol maybe it would be a different matter? :D

Where's Mr GT when you need him? he chopped in one for his vRS a while back. he hasn't posted for a while either.

Thought the SRi was the quick one?????

Had a normal 2.0, drank fuel 25 mpg on a steady run, broke down twice Ecu fault both times

Well guys i looked at one locally to me, and tbh it looked to me as if it had the nuts screwed off it - bald front tyres with no sidewall grip left. Clearly neglected too - kerbed alloys and rust beginning to appear, on a 7 year old car. Lots of scratches too. Interior was lovely though, but I had to walk away... just a "feeling" i had about it.

I looked around and looked at some other cars but to be honest most of them appeared to be neglected - the problem with "hot" cars tbh. Evidence of kerbing, impacts and years and years of automatic car washes. These were

If you've got

My mistake, i know bugger all about cars!

Ta Raah !! You called ? :)

SRi was the GT wannabe, 123 BHP as opposed to 150 BHP also Nissan did 3 suspension setups, standard on most primeras, 'sport' for the 1.6 Si and 2.0 Sri and proper suspension on the GT :)

Even though Ive had my Octy for nearly 12 months I still miss the old GT.

I Px'd mine when it had 93,000 on it (7 years old) . Bodywork was still good, engine sound, never had anything done to it, in the 60k miles I had it, apart from tyres, brake pads and regular servicing. Interior was immaculate, better quality leather than the octy and a better standard sound system, averaged around 36-38 mpg mainly motorway cruising. Handling felt tighter and more composed, but was let down by only 150 BHP. The car spent approx 1 hr on the dealers forecourt before being bought by one of the mechanics !!

All in all a crackingly good motor.

I always thought the GT was 167 bhp?

My Dad used to run 3 Primeras in their fleet. 1 had 2 new gearboxes and another had 1 new gearbox. Both of these were cars that did maybe 20k miles a year and were 3 yrs old when they ditched them.

Neither were the GT though

My mechanic friend said that gearbox was the weak point in them - told me to look out for a whine.
