Idle Curiousity

Featured Replies

When I open the driver's door I hear the faint noise of an electric motor for a few seconds. ( suppose it could happen with any of the doors, it's just that it's my Yeti so I'm the one that gets to sit behind the big round thing). I don't have electric seats, the mirrors aren't folded. It shouldn't be related to the windows or sunroof. I'm just curious as to what it might be. If it should make a difference, it's a 1.2 Elegance.

Mine does it also, CD player booting??

Fuel Pump priming ready.

Drivers door only. Petrol Engine.

On Diesels when key in ignition.

^^^ This.

Interesting, I have noticed this but paid no mind to it, perhaps I will use the passenger door if all I am doing is fetching something from the car's glove box or dash top locker if I am not intending to go anywhere.

Wonder why...

Convenience, you get in the car and its ready to go,

if you do not start the car , then nothing lost. It does not flatten the battery, it just primed ready to start instantly.

But why not when the key goes in the ign. ? Don't remember ever being inconvenienced with other cars, never thought "wow, just wasted 300 milliseconds waiting for that pump to prime"..... Something else to go wrong one day imo.

Now it will become a worry to people.

How many are going wrong, ? people seem to not even know it is happening.

More likely the Air Bag light will not go out. Engine check light come on.

Or the ABS light, TPMS light, all the other things that will cause MOT failures just in the next few years.

Then there are Mirrors not fold or unfold, DRLs not switch on,  Auto Wipers not Auto Wipe.

I haven't noticed this noise in my Yeti, but my Lupo Sport used to put the ventilation into recirculating mode after a fixed period away from the car and used to make a distinct noise when it opened the air vents upon return. I wonder if you have your air recirculating button set in the automatic position?

Because it does!

Because that is the way VAG programme their systems!

There are far more important things to worry about:

How good is this year's Vintage going to be?

Are skirts going to get shorter or longer?

Will I keep all my hair?

Will the climate control pack up every year (like mine does)?

:-(

This sound when opening the driver's door always makes me think "Thunder Yetis are go"

Seems to be escalating uneccesarily, none of the above worry me (I wasn't the one that raised the issue). Having discovered the answer to the original question I was just wondering if there was a good reason why! - evidently there isn't one :-)

WRT skirt length and hair loss, they rate even lower on the worry scale......

Honestly, is it really an inconvenience?

Graham - No, not at all - you may have missed the point - I was being sarcastic (attempt at mild humour failed again....). That aside, "just because" is not really a considered response - you weren't an apathetic teacher in a previous life by any chance? :-)

(Note; light hearted response - in case of any doubt)

You must be getting old.

Skirt lengths are always a fascination, specially if they're getting shorter ;)

As far as hair loss goes, if the vintage is good, drink more of it, then you just won't care :)

As was mine, which is why I put in the bit you didn't quote. :giggle:

Teacher.............never; my wife says I don't have the patience, but I do some instructing

I hope skirts get shorter

I'm female, maybe less shallow ;-)

Isn't it doctors that have patience and teachers pupils? Or is that opticians?

But thanks everyone for their answers - one less thing for me to get neurotic about and I'm going to run with "Thunder Yetis are go"

OK I give in on the shorter skirts but hair loss could apply to your partner.

A good bottle of wine and the same rules apply.

I make that 1-1 :)

Fortunately, where we live, we don't have to worry about anything to enjoy a good bottle of wine :-)

I never hear it on my Octavia. Must be the Wife chomping in my ear every time we go out    :(

I know exactly what you mean.

We spent last weekend in Bordeaux.

Very warm down there so had to keep the fluid levels up ;)
