Oil/Filter change

Featured Replies

I thought I would change the oil and filter yesterday after 6 months and just over 2K mileage.

Got the oil, filter and a new sump plug. Getting the oil out was easy. Getting the filter off was another matter.

Two broken strap wrenches and a bent chain wrench later I just managed to loosen the filter. I did not think a filter tightened up to 20nm would take so much effort?

Were you turning it counter-clockwise?

Only kidding - like wheel bolts and ones that go into softer alloys I suspect that power tools are used and abused by mechanics where less torque is actually needed...

Good job anyway. Perseverance clearly paid-off...

Perseverance did pay off. And two bleeding fingers and a nice black nail on my thumb when the straps broke?

Is it a cartridge filter or a paper element type on these engines?

It is a cartridge filter located at the front of the engine towards the bottom.

I know that the Citigo has a fixed service regime using 502.00 spec oil.  Personally I like Millers.  We have an Octavia where we use 504.00 spec oil, fully synthetic 5w 30.  Does anybody know if you can use 504.00 in the Citigo?  I am interested to know, I don't have one yet but will do by Christmas when I order it and Skoda build it for me.

Would save me having 2 grades of oil!

Millers say on their website that 502.00 is also 5w 30 fullly synthetic longlife.  Seems the same as 504.00 to me.  Some of the charactertistics of the oil slightly different but all very marginal.

If nobody is sure then I'll drop Millers an email and post the results.

Also interested in this.

Can't see why not? but would not think you would need a long life oil for a 10K or 1Yr service regime?

That's what I thought when I found the one litre of it supplied by Skoda, in the boot....as if to say: "and this is what we've used and you should too".

You can use 504.00 oil the Citigo, as it's rated higher than 502.00. 504.00 oil meets and exceeds 502.00 requirement. Viscosity isn't so important, but you could get better fuel economy if you use 5w-30 oil. At least in theory.
