All a bit of a shambles

Friend had to wait 3 months for her new Fiat 500, the only extra?

OH dear.

To be honest, are we not becoming a little more picky about what we want?

Previously when I have bought new cars I would take something from dealer/group/company stock. However with more reliance on just in time delivery, and perhaps a reluctance by manufacturers to have stock therefore capital tied up, this sought of approach is no longer a reality (unless you just need a car).

Plus a desire on the part of the consumer (i.e. us) to personalise their cars with options perhaps means that cars in stock are just not possible anymore, and as such we have to wait for them to be built. Admittedly, even today giving us accurate information for when our cars will be built is a bit hit or miss. I must also agree that from some of the examples I have heard of here, SUK/dealers are not being entirely honest with the purchaser in what is actually causing the delays. Wake up SUK/dealers, we are grown ups and can take bad news. All I think any of us ask is that you tell us when our cars will arrive, and if delayed, just give us a valid believable reason.

As to mine, ordered 24th July, should be built this week, and possibly driving it by October as apparently Skoda are keen to get us in our cars - or more to the point, get their hands on our cash :bandit:

Best of luck with the wait everyone, I hope it isn't to long for us all.

Mine, which I collect later this week, was bought from national unallocated stock.  In an ideal world, I would have specified sat nav and cruise control, but even without, I'm going to get a good car.  Mind you, the week or so it has taken between ordering and finding out that collection will be later this week, has been interminable.  Thoughts with you all, waiting several months!

+1 on the above. I bought both my Octys from national stock and the wait was bad enough for me so a big thumbs up to all of you who are prepared to wait.

In 1979 (!) I ordered a new Audi 80 ( a new model then, too ) and had to wait over 3 months for delivery. Waiting enhances the pleasure of eventually getting behind the wheel ! So my 3 month wait should be worthwhile providing they don't prolong the deadline ( agony).

I totally agree with what people are saying & yes the wait for mine will be worthwhile, however as an example I was told by the dealer car was built in week 33 & some 3 weeks later it has only made it to Emden - why - no reply!!

Ring Skoda UK yesterday & told car was built week 34 & transport began week 35. As dealer emailed a copy of the factory progress sheet I asked why that showed built week 33?

Short delay & new answer - yes you are correct was built week 33 & is now on one of 2 vessels due in Grimsby yesterday. You should get car this week or next.

Thats fine but why dont dealers find this out & let customers know instead of guessing & giving out misinformation.

I've ben quoted 12 weeks to build my vRS estate - much the same as it took for my current one.  12 weeks to build a Skoda to your order - fair enough: but why does it take DFS 15 weeks to build a standard-spec sofa?

The delivery times are a real pain for company car drivers such as myself.

I run mine to 100,000 so for years now with Skoda I have to start looking 8 months in advance to check the models and spec within my budget.

Then when I come to order it the running costs have changed so I have to start again.

Ford take around 3 weeks to get the cars.

I will be looking at another Skoda but if its a 6 month wait next time I may go elsewhere this time round.

I do around 1000 miles a week so it can be an issue with such a long wait.

Is that a fair comparison though. It will only be 3 weeks if Ford have stock of the model you want. If you want a combination of extras/colours that is not in stock then you need to wait the typical 12 week wait.

I guess the one difference is Ford import a huge stock of cars (which will cost a lot in comparison to made to order)

Interesting thread, but nothing IMO compared to the farce that was the Rapid launch.

Overpriced and low spec, big discounts to shift some cars, several spec changes in the first six months leaving early buyers shortchanged etc...

If I'd bought an early Rapid at close to list price I'd never buy a Skoda again.

And as an early Yeti adopter I think its funny that people are getting so wound up on delivery times that are that short! :giggle:

We waited about 7 or 8 months for the first one, quite happily.

10 months for mine and also quite happy to wait that. For me its all part of the experience. Looking back to when I was a kid, I learnt that actually the excitment of looking forward to the main event (ie Christmas Day, opening pressies) was actually a positive part of the whole overall experience! :)

Mmmm I think it's how they are sold the dealer doesn't tell me anything, believe me I have asked

Suk now told me last Friday that its delayed again ,but won't tell me why the dealer does that ! But still no phone call from dealer So left in limbo again !

That's what's annoying

Got a call from my dealer this afternoon to say;

Your car is being built today :)

Had been told it was going to be this week, but didn't expect to get a call on the actual day. Go figure?
