Remap

Featured Replies

This is going to be a stupid question, but can you 'lose' a remap?

I maybe just getting used to mine and it just feels 'normal' now....

Probably so. You not had it in at Skoda at all? They might have overwritten it with an ECU update.

No it hasn't been to a garage at all.

I'm thinking I may just be getting bored...

Should a dealer not check with you first before they overwrite. could you have your Map taken off and put back on again or would this defeat the whole purpose of the update.

A decent 'mapper' should put it back on foc if it ever gets deleted by a garage.

My car hasn't been to a garage.

A dealer may not know if your car has been mapped, or may update due to safety reasons. Either way this will put the car back to stock.

I asked the question after recently mapping my car and was told that they would put the performance map back on if it had been overwritten.

If this was due to an update they would take the updated software and put the performance map on the updated file therefore keeping the update aswell. All free of charge while I own the car.

I think it pays to use reputable companies who go the extra mile :)

You'll be just getting used to the "different" sensation that you'll have experienced when first driving your remapped car. This phenomenon is well documented on different car tuning forums and I myself have experienced it on the numerous remapped cars that I've owned.

Don't worry, your map is still there and your question is entirely valid!

not really true, I had my VRS mapped and about a week later I thought the car feels slower?? had the guy come round who installed the MAP, and the MAP had gone!!!! but he came up with loads of excuses like its the MAF that's gone (bought a new one and fitted it two days before he looked at the car) then he said it could be the Canbus?? after a heated discussion I had my money back off him.

It really doesn't happen that a map just reverts back to standard, as the original map has been overwritten. It's entirely plausible that the MAF has failed, but never heard of a canbus fault.

Bizarrely MAF's, in the past at least, had a history of failing "out of the box", as new.

I'm not trying to defend your mapper, but it does seem a little odd. It might be worth you heading to a specialist for a professional opinion and a fix.

Good luck, I hope you get things sorted.
