Moved from Fabia 1 forum, Detailing (no clue but need to ask about Maguiars da350 drill attachment

Featured Replies

I do not know if I can mention Mekuirs (deliberate miss spell)

They have a drill attachment that simulates/does orbital, so you can not damage the paint work with burns

I have several questions

1, Has anyone experience of this kit

2, I have just got my car back with a full re-spray after vandalism, and I would like to polish and seal it

3, How do you get a glass like shine,  can you use multiple applications of polish finishing with a wax or do you polish and do multiple applications of wax ?

4, At the moment the paintwork is pristine, no swirls or scratches just pure paint work

5, They did all but the alloys, how do I find the right silver for the alloys (I can not afford the £280 they want for alloy refurb, or £300 elsewhere for a powder coat job)

6, They also did not do the Spoiler as it is a known fault to delaminate, can I just spray this myself with Clear Lacquer ?)

7, As they re-sprayed the whole body shell, I find them a bit miserable gits not to do the 5" x 48" spoiler without asking for over £150 extra

8, When it was bought new I was offered Supaguard for £299 which I knocked back, I then went to show my brother my new car, his pal works at a dealer, He gave me the Supaguard kit,for free,   A 6" x 4" sponge that you stabbed six little holes and wiped it over the car

Back to my main question has anyone experience of this Maguairs G3500 DA kit that you attach to a home drill and use the correct buffing pads ?

Regards National

You obviously have no experience with machine polishing

Also without such knowledge, you are more likely to do more harm than good with a contraption like that

You will also need the correct polish and pad combination to ensure you don't remove too much clearcoat

I assume its this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MEGUIARS-G3500-DA-POWER-SYSTEM-BRAND-NEW-/161009823061

HOWEVER.......if its just had a re-spray, then I wouldn't touch it with any polish, as its more than likely to be still a little soft and it may marr or worse!!

All it will need will be a sealer and/or wax applied by hand

Perhaps not the answer you were after, but new paint polishing is rather pointless unless there are defects and you have some knowledge of the processes involved

Thank you Chris

Sorry for the delay, I was away out of the country for  a couple of weeks

Yes that was the buffer polisher I had in mind

You are correct, that I have no experience whatsoever I just thought a revolving machine would be easier than all the hard hand work, and the advert says DA will ensure no swirls or burn marks

The idea I had in mind, was as it has been re-sprayed, there are no swirls/holograms or scratches, and thought a few coats of polish, then a maguairs wax coat, followed by MER sealer would set me up for the winter

My paint has always been good, as from new I have either two bucket hand washed it, or if lazy then one of the foam lances NEVER a garage roller wash or their hand finish with a sponge I have just seen them drop several times on the floor :-)

Once again thank you ChrisRs for saving me damaging what I have
