VRS hot start issue, and lumpy idle

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Had a head gasket changed, and along with other problems that have kind of been resolved by the garage, a few still remains.

The hot start issue is new since the work has been carried out. Basically, after a run, and the car being up to temperature, if you stop it and start it again, it runs for a couple of seconds and dies.

The garage (a well known garage in southampton - no names just yet) said to me, and I quote "holding it on the starter motor for a few seconds fixes it" which we all know is not a way to treat any car!

Anyone know the kind of possible causes for this?

Also another issue now is a lumpy idle. In this thread, there are a couple of videos of a shakey vrs engine. Mine is easily twice as bad as this, and I keep thinking that the top boost pipe will pop off. Have heard this could be injector or flywheel related, but not sure as to which.

Car is a 2006 Fabia VRS, 154k, mufflerectomy, and HAD the resistor mod

Thanks guys

Lumpy idle? Sounds daft but have they timed the engine up correctly? Could be just out slightly?

That starter motor comment is pure horse s£$t, hope you laughed at them.

Hope you find the problem, nothing worse than the pride and joy running poorly.

Timing has been checked apparently several times at the first garage, and assuming skoda done that to start with. Its not lumpy in a way that it shakes the car, but the engine has a good 2-3 inches of movement as it shakes...

Yeah I did when they said that to me. You can't turn round as a "professional" garage and suggest holding it on the starter motor! lol

Not so much of a pride and joy at the moment, more of a pain in the arse and a money drain. Spent pretty much its value on it already... :(

There are several recent posts - worth searching - sounds like either a sensor or a connector not fully pushed home.
