Bad engine shake

Featured Replies

... Is back again.. Becomes really bad when parked uphill!

It is that bad when sat in the car stationary you struggle to send a text message due to the shaking..

Last time I took it to the garage they replaced an engine mount which made it seem less harsh - I suspect that were simply masking the problem. Videos below :/

Yours thoughts? If I restart the engine the shaking stops for around 10 seconds then the shaking slow creeps back in.. I will be contacting the garage again first thing tomorrow...

Contacted Skoda direct today as a last resort too, Got a call from them who is passing it onto a Techy.

The way its moving i would have said kick mount on the rear of the engine, it also looks like its more from the gearbox side so would change the gearbox mount at the same time.

But really...  I suspect an underlying issue, misfire etc...

not sure if you can check it with vcds but injector looms are common for going which can cause a miss fire

I have been told this has been replaced. (On-going issue) nearly a year now

Shame you can't take it to a decent garage.

My bet is 1 hour with your car and I'd have an answer to what the problem is a price to fix it.

Shame should be said for most garages though.

I wish you were local mate!

Mine use to do this when facing downhill, I changed my clutch/dmf for a Valeo smf kit and it doesn't do it anymore.

Mine rocks a bit but nothing like that, the way the coolant pipes are being flexed on yours is just wrong.  What rpm is that 900?.  You could try adjusting the tickover with vagcom to see if it helps but it wont cure that amount of shaking.  Hope you get to the bottom if it and report back what was causing it here.  As above get a decent VAG specialist to check it out.

Hi Rapture.

It is currently under warranty with the company I purchased it with so I am taking it back to them on monday. It only does it when warming up / engine warm. From cold it runs super!

Yes I do think mine idles around 900rpm bud, Not going to mess about with it as above its under warranty = not my problem. Just wish it were sorted sooner as nearly a year on I still have the same problem.

You have to ask on here most of the time.. Super tech.

Jesus! That is worse than mine :D

Well...

Took the car back to show them.. turns out two faulty injectors - They are now been ordered under warranty.

  • 3 weeks later...

Lumpy idle is common to this 1.9 PD . Its not a fault s0niX that's just the way they are, they were made to be driven hard and not to be pootled around town and no end of tinkering will not stop the lumpy idle. Drive and enjoy

You are wrong, Skoda have said that my issue is not normal - Infact it is in the garage as we speak having two Injectors replaced in cylinder 2 and 4.

if its under warranty take it back and demand they fix it or your money back.

If you can, get them to replace the DMF and clutch they can cause vibration when the flywheel becomes unstable. its a hefty unit! (plus it'll save you a cheeky £700 lol)

Interestingly enough I had a really rough idle and shake when the car was cold and facing downhill. If I dip the clutch or rev the engine it's okay then off and it's back to shake.

Its common but its not normal. the cam timing is your issue 999 times out of 1000 its that. hook up vague com. go to measuring block 4 and look at the end. tolerances are plus minus 3. Mine had shake and when i checked cam timing it was 7.6 so way out.

As i say it shouldn't be like that, i have a pd 130 and it idle smooth as silk.

That is of course if it isn't dmf just to reiterate :-)

Bloody hell. Cant think what else it could be off the top of my head then to be honest.

The anti shudder valve wont have anything to do with it would it? I know thats to do with when the engine is turned off but thats the only thing I can come up with. Hope you get it sorted thats some serious movement!
