Is my car worth less or more with modifcations

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have a MK1 Fabia VRS with a few little extras and wanted to know how much people think it's worth. I have my own idea and I might be selling it next month but wanted to know if I was going to lose any money or if I was about right.

Basics:

It's a 55 plate,

Black,

86k on the clock

Full Service History

Cambelt changed in last service with receipt

Extras:

VW Racing Engine Remap (160BHP & 290 Ibs Torque)

VW PD160 Air Intake

Bilstein Racing Suspension, Springs and Shocks purchased from DPM Performance (Feb 2013)

Alpine DVD, NAV, USB, iPod, Phone Prep, Speed Camera Detector Double Din Unit (£1,200 purchased in Feb 2013)

They normally go for about £4,300 without the extras and I was going to be looking for about £4,900 with all this on.

So debate, what do you think this is worth and why?

Thanks

yes and no

yes to the person who wants them all

Most of the time tho, selling standard and selling the parts you make more money.

You might get the same money with those mods on but not more.

They will also turn some people, like me, away entirely.

So what value would you all put it at or is my pricing about right?

I do have the original Head Unit,  Springs and Shocks. So if anyone wanted they can take them as well for an additional £100. This is what my thinking was.

A lot of information there for a thread that isn't attempting to sell a car without first paying for Freedom membership

No as I need to know what it's worth first as I don't want to lose any money. If I get some good responses it will be for sale next month :)

Sometimes, putting modifications on can turn people away due to them presuming you've not treated the car as a car but more of a toy, but i believe that it doesnt make the value of the car go up, plus it lowers the chances of people even coming to look as they know things have been played with, thats my opinion anyway :)

Strip it,flog the stuff, return to as close as standard

as you can. I got 3900 for my Fabia, I bought it

for 4700 four years previously. I got about £1200

all together for all the bits and pieces I flogged off the car.

£5100 in total. I was pretty happy with that to be honest.

Considering I kept the car for 4 years, it's pretty good going.

I left the upgraded suspension, brakes and blueflame on

the car. I couldn't see the value in paying to have it all put back

standard again and then trying to sell the parts on.

I thought once the labour had been paid for the return was

negligible so I didn't bother. I still made £100 selling the

original brakes and suspension on. I reckon after paying my mechanic

I wouldn't have been left with much more than that selling the upgraded

stuff and besides, leaving them on the car was a nice bonus for the next owner.

I appreciate the input. I have thought about this but it is a lot of effort. I knew this would not be a simple decision :(

I assume I have got the pricing right as no one has said I will be asking too much?

I think its worth around £3750

My point was that I didn't strip it all, just what I could do myself

for free. The rest of the stuff I sold was my 'stock' and a few mods that

either never made it onto the car or were only on there for a short while.

You'd be surprised what there's a market for on here.

In either case you should get on and spend £12 on a freedom membership

it's a very very cheap way to advertise both the car and the bits on here.

You don't pay fees like on ebay, and you have a captive marketplace.

And in return the site benefits from your contribution.

Money for old rope.

As this thread can be construed as an advert (by a non freedom member) and the topic has basically been answered pretty concisely, I am locking this now. :)
