An MOT story that I would like to share

If the reason for failure can be deemed dangerous the current mot is no longer valid.

This has been of discussion a lot recently as its not long been enforced

That's news to me, could you point me in the direction of where it is documented?

As far as I'm aware only VOSA or the Police can revoke the MOT status of a vehicle by means of a prohibition notice, which is detailed in the MOT testing guide, here:

As a tester I don't recall that we have been given the power to revoke current MOT certificates just by ticking the dangerous box next to a fail item.  If so, it always raises the question of 'Is the current MOT invalid if we catergorise an advisory as dangerous?'.  One example of this would be a rear prop shaft that's just about to fall off, it's not testable, but I would deem it dangerous.  I've witnessed someone drive a car away from a test during which a brake pipe burst, there was nothing that I could do about it apart from advise that it wasn't driven.

There are some non testable items that could attract a prohibition, such as tinted front side windows, which goes to show that you can have a car tested one day and have it removed from the road the next day.
