Project camper, it's started.

The 240 system is massively over specced. The qualified sparky who hooked it up and certified it for me (which isn't technically required) said the circuit breakers are plenty good especially as the cable run is very short compared to a household installation. I can't for the life of me remember what size they are, currently watching footie in the club house :)

  • Like that I'm 100% sure it will leak.

  • So just about to kick off the 2016 camping season. Cleaned the camper up this morning, bloody hard work but doesn't look too bad.

  • Just to show that it's not all slapped together. Things are being run nice and neatly behind the panels. Takes a little more time but worth it. P clips and conduit used. Plus rubber edging trim on a

I suppose its fine for a camper, as long as you know you can't treat those sockets like you would at home. For the sake of an extra few meters of cable I think I would of wired it up as a ring circuit otherwise my mrs would find a way to overload the damn thing.

This is the circuit breaker box.

Sockets are split over two breakers and everything has been fine for over a year.

In such short runs those 16 amp breakers will be fine with 2.5mm flex, good to know it has an RCD too. I would think in this day and age it would be part of the regulations to have each supply RCD protected at the outlet anyway but I'm only guessing

The hook up is on a breaker too at the site, that's standard.

Yes but an RCD and a breaker are two different devices. The breaker essentially protects the cabling under fault current and an RCD will help save your life if there is any current leakage. If there is no RCD on the outlet and somebody has a camper without one fitted then its not very safe by todays standards  :D

Is that the fuel filler cap on the front wing?

Oh dear lord, there are enough RCDs, breakers, fuses, bits of wire, switches and plugs all stamped by a qualified sparky so don't worry.

And yes the fuel filler is on the front wing.

There might be in your camper, but do you think everybody has one. I don't think so.

P.S I don't think your getting enough sleep in your camper van Mr grumpy :D

All of the sites we used to visit for both our camping holidays and caravan holidays had both Rcd's and breakers on the supply bollard on the site. This is just one of the clubs site bumph leaflets just to use as an example - http://campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk/helpandadvice/technicalhelp/power/electricity-for-campers-and-caravanners/

Camper really looks awesome Tech1e, wish I could justify having one for the season, but we just keep the trailer tent in the garden for odd weekends now.
