Anti Roll Bar !

Featured Replies

vRS went in today as there has been a clunking noise when going on ramps and sleeping policeman etc.

Someone on here had a similar problem and told me that the "bushes" had probably gone.

Anyways, the dealer has just phoned and said they can't do it today as the part they need isn't stocked.

Apparently it needs a new anti roll bar!

Forgive my ignorance, but surely these don't go with wear and tear?

Yup, mum had these changed on her octy cause of speed humps.

Usually its the links that need replacing that connect the anti roll bar to the strut.

Guess what's getting fixed on my Octy :D The links. they are only about

Yep, had my Octy vRS ati-roll bar replaced under warranty (about 6 months back), and last week had to change both link bars and anti-roll bar bushes, whole lot was

Well there is nothing wrong with my anti roll bar or links????? the mechanic checked them took them off put them back on and went for a test drive. Guess what?????????????

The noise has gone????? So i'm confused. At least it cost me nothing, unlike if I had taken it to a stealer.

I let you into a secret. It probably WAS your anti-roll bar/bush combination. My mechanic couldn't find anything loose, but last week I did a pretty thorough internet traul and came accross a site which said the [audi] TT is prone to developing an annoying knock at the front end, which under examination, cannot be found. 99% of the time, it said, it will DEFINETLY be the anti-roll bar links and bushes, which should be changed/tampered with (in your case ;) ). I did this last Saturday, and no more knocking

I found the link, have a look at the 4th paragraph http://www.wak-tt.com/auditech/auditech.htm

P.S. For those who don't know by now, the Octavia [vRS] shares many parts with the TT/Golf/Leon etc

As a little rule of thumb I usually find..

Knocks and Clonks....ARB Links

Squeaks and Sqwarks...ARB Bushes.

Ross  I like it!!!

With regards to the anti roll bar, I will see if the noise comes back. If it does it's not as though it's gonna cost a lot to put right now is it.

Are the links and bushes an easy DIY/driveway job ?

And for those still interested- just thought I would let you know that I have just booked my vRS Octavia in to have the anti roll bar, links and bushes replaced by Farmers Skoda dealer in Leicester for

On Audi's, ARB bushes often give creaks/groans over speed humps, etc, and if left long enough they can eat into the ARB itself. Sometimes ARB's crack or split, but usually all that should be needed is to change the bushes and links and most creaking problems should stop.

That doesn't mean you won't get creaks from other bushes later on though.. the front ARB bushes are usually the first to "go" in that you hear them first. Other bushes could degrade but not be so audible, like the wishbone bushes, etc.

I know that when I got the ARB links and bushes done on my A3, it made the front of the car feel like it sat higher and stiffer, and it felt much fresher to drive.
