New windscreen - Autoglass

Featured Replies

Hi,

Got a scheduled appointment for a windscreen replacement tomorrow.

I have auto wipers n auto lights on the elegance model. However noticed that they only asked if I had a heated windscreen or not.

Did anyone have to tell them about the auto wiper and light functions? I did mention when phoning back but was told details of my vin etc via dvla would identify the correct windscreen.

I read about people requiring new gel packs when fitting sensors back on. I assume all this will be provided with the new replacement?

Thanks

Autoglass replaced our Elegance screen a few months ago.

They did a perfect job and asked no questions.

I guess they have all the information they need from the Insurers and registration number.

Oh that's good to hear :)

I was just worried if I had to ensure they had certain parts available at the time for the replacement (gel packs)

Had read some folk has issues with there rain sensor not working due to this....?

Personally I'd check

Anyone confirm if their auto glass fitters had these gel pack parts as standard prior to the fitment, without requesting?

i got my octy vRS screen replaced.

the guy who came to repair but couldn't (chip was too close to the edge) told me to tell the "office" that I didn't have a sensor, but the only other question they asked was whether the original was plain or had a tinted strip at the top.

I had my heated screen replaced by Autoglass in 2011. The fitter was very careful and neat. No marks or scuffs on any of the trim he took out. Everything worked perfectly after he had finished the job. Very impressed with the job.

Thanks Guys...

I've just got off the phone to the branch and they confirm it'll have gel pack and all the required trim...the windscreen on order is for rain/light sensors....so all good.

Hope weather is ok as no cover from rain...

Auto glass did the screen on my old Yeti Elegance, no issues with sensors etc. Indeed he tested everything when he finished.

Didn't manage to get my replacement today as the black pillar trims ordered were damaged. I didn't actually think autoglass would include these parts for the windscreen replacement.

I noticed that the windscreen was a pilkington brand etched in the passenager corner.

Is this the usual brand of replacement you get via autoglass? Assume these are alrite?

Looked at my original windscreen, but only seems to show the skoda logo plus AGC Automotive 20c and a few other codes. There's no specific brand as such. Are these oem skoda windscreens usually pilkington branded anyways?

Thanks

Pilkington are the main windscreen manufacturer in the UK and are one of the world leaders in their field.

I think the original fitment was of German manufacture.
Don't worry about it!

I have had 2 replaced by them, both times very quickly and efficiently. Turned up with the correct screen each time, fascinating to watch the old screen being cut out with a piano wire, and then the new one gently fitted into place with the aid of a suction arm that stuck onto the side window and acted as a 'mate' for the fitter. First time one of the 'Piano Black' trims cracked as he was taking it off, he stopped phoned and ordered a new one and then carried on. Both sides actually arrived the next day, followed by the fitter to fit them - all in the price - anybody need an off-side front window trim ??

Wow 2 screens!

In both instances, did they reuse the rain/light gel sensor, or did they replace with a new one?

Were these both Pilkington screens as well, as assume they were a good fit. As reading from other skoda models some complained about not prefect fit issues on Pilkington types?

I had screen replaced by autoglass on my elegance couple months ago with Pilkington one, Don't know if they replaced "gel sensor" or not but did great job and auto lights and wiper worked as before, didn,t damage trims on removal, re fiitted original as car less than 6 months old and left me new trims to fit in future if mine got scratched.

Just had to make appointment to get my screen replaced, i didnt want them doing it due to  bad experience with then , but my insurance insisted that its either them or i pay full whack.

Even less happy, when my insurer transferred me to the call centre the person on the other end asked all the car details, reg / make/ model/ does it have rain -light sensors, am i vat registered ( asked this twice), just before finishing my call at around 11 am i was told my local centre would call within a couple of hrs to arrange visit to a branch to get done( didnt want mobile person to come out as the risk of cancellation due to bad weather is too great at this time of year).

Guess what - NO call, so i got onto facebook page and posted my annoyance, & guess what someone responded to my news within 3 mins, an hour after giving them my car reg someone from the local branch rang to ( heres another good bit)  update me on progress  lol lol  [ i hadnt even had the 1st call for them to give me an update on ] the update was tht they had ordered the screen & would call back when they had advise that it was in stock for delivery ( no eta so I could have been waiting all winter). Anyway i now have an appointment.

Something i found out, Autoglass do not have any links to the insurers Database to get any details about your car or what your insurance excess is, they have to ask for all the details about your car & even what type of windscreen. We are in the 21st century where askmid  & wbac & probably a few other that i have missed that can tell you what your car is just by putting your reg in.

Also the local branch is open till 6, but the guys doing the windscreen only work till 4:30 & dont work Sat !!!!!!!!!!!!! If you want work doing at the local branch a mobile person has to come in to do.

With the 2 previously bad experiences i had with autoglass & my fabia vrs - treked to local branch only to find it was the wrong screen, & had to go back when they had the correct one the following week & a chip repair being of really poor quality, along with this current farce it with great trepidation that i go to get my screen replaced at my appointed time, I am fully expecting them to have the wrong trousers  screen & i have to go back.

Seriously not impressed with Autoglass

We've had two replacement screens fitted by Autoglass and each time they knew that they were dealing with an Elegance with auto lights/wipers before they spoke to me.  The only question they asked was about the heated screen which wasn't available at launch on my ex demo.

Both times all new 'gel packs' were brought by the fitter and he seemed to know exactly what was needed to keep everything working properly after replacement.  Never had any issues and have found Autoglass guys to be very friendly and efficient.  It's now two years since the latest screen was fitted, winter is coming and so we must be due another one soon!

The Yeti screens seem prone to stone damage or it seems that the roads these days have more rubbish on them to be chucked up by other vehicles.  Not much you can do about it other than to make sure that if shopping around for insurance that you know what the various insurers rules are for them paying for new screens.
