The bulb munching continues

Featured Replies

Well after only 6 weeks both allegedly extra long life bulbs have blown, thats a total of 14 bulbs of different makes of dipped beam ones since Feb.

Have checked every wire I can see to make sure that all connections are ok, are there any relays under the bonnet anywhere, that controle them.

I have a set of HIDs waiting to go in, but dont want to put them in until the bulb munching can be corrected.

Could anyone with a wiring diagram please put it up on here so I can try to follow it

Which bulbs - main and dipped? Any particular brands.

I've had Osram Nightbreaker Plus in main and Philips Extreme in dipped since new without issues.

Is your Superb one of the earlier models that uses dipped headlights (at reduced intensity) for the DRL function?

Have you put a voltage meter on the connection? Sounds like you have a high voltage blowing the bulbs...

Possibility.

If it is the same lamp each  time then there is either a bad connection inside the bulb holder or corrosion on the connector that the bulb touches.

This has the same end result as switching the bulbs on and off repeatedly.

No, Not done that yet, I have tryed all brands, its not limited to one side, I can park the car at night, come out next day put ignition on without starting and the bulb out warning is on, its not always the one side, I leave the switch on auto,

If it was a room in your house and you called me out to the problem I would change the bulb holder and that always cures it.

Not as simple in these cars perhaps but at least start by cleaning the contacts.

Maplin amongst others sell a fibreglass pencil that is ideal for this.

Just a gentle rub till it looks shiny, don't take the tinning off.

If that doesn't fix it I would be looking for corrosion in a connector, but where would I start??

Best I can offer sorry.

I went through a spell of using high powered bulbs, all of which blew in the end, even brand names.

Reverted back to road legal 55W headlight bulbs, the bulb problem was solved no more blown head-light bulbs.
