Is this the norm after lowering my fabia...(pics)

Featured Replies

Hi folks looking some advice.lowered my 2011 fabia on H+R 40mm lowering springs but noticed this gap at the top mounts maybe its always been there even before the car was lowered im not sure, it would great if any fabia folks who have lowered there cars would have a look and see if this is the norm or maybe its there on all fabia's of my year or so. i have also cheaked that the top mount nut is tight and there is nothing loose, fotos of the same would be great.cheers folks

No fabia related experience I'm afraid but my TT did this and the top mounts needed renewing. The gap was considerably bigger than yours though but after changing they went back flush.

Thanks dude my fabia only has 16500 miles on it so i dont think the top mounts are shot.

don't rule anything out until you've inspected it beforehand. :)

Hi O.C.D, appears I have an even worse issue, this under bonnet snap is pre-lowering and I'm lopsided.

................I need a mechanic.

Interestingly I have a slight pull to the left too, hmm : /

Hi O.C.D. I had the exact same thing on my (now gone) MK2 vrs. I think a reason for there being a gap is that because the OE springs are considerably bigger than your lowering ones, the OE shock is pushing up on your top mount a forcing it to show a little. Not eno

That was my understanding of

That was my understanding of what I was told.

Though if its correct I'm not sure.

Hope this helps

Offside - pretty similiar apart from mine is dirtier, little concerned the gap is a touch more prononunced on the nearside.

Photo's courtest of Asda Oldham Carpark - v flat.

I just had a look in mine, and it's the same as Sparkly's. Nuts are tightly into place but there is this 4-5mm gap. I'm 99% sure this showed up after lowering, seems to be confirmed by everyone with the H&Rs (and stock dampers) on so this must be the case. Any possible hazards from this behavior? Haven't felt anything "strange" though. Makes me think I really need those B8s...!

Hi folks its great to hear from some of yous... this morning i took off the top caps of the strut ( i mean the caps that you see when you lift the bonnet and your looking at the top of the struts). anyway when i took them off the condition of the rubber was 100% and sitting neat and snug up against the top seat of the body work. i hope this alleviates some of the concerns over this issue but it would still be great to hear from somebody that works in the performance suspension game on this issue and maybe a reason why this is happening .

Hi sean -92 i just cant figure out why this gap has occurred after fitting lowering springs, after checking the top mounts i cant figure out where the movement is coming from.

Standard car for comparison...

Yo Ozfabia is ur car lowered , from ur foto i cant see if there is a gap at the top of your struts or not because the plastic cap at the top is a lot more curved than mine and from the angle of the foto i cant make out the size of the gap if any.

Standard car for comparison...

I'm guessing not lowered

'Is it Normal for a lowered Fabia MK2 ?'

It is normal for a Fabia MK 2 on Standard Height Springs!

(Sparkly, maybe put the plastic caps back on if you have them)

Yep, not lowered.

So your standard vRS top mounts look the same as the lowered ones?!  I'd swear in stock form the rubber rings were in contact with the metal base but then again it's more than a year that I've changed springs, maybe I'm beginning to imagine things... If standard cars are like that then nothing to worry about I guess!

Those plastic caps were both broken when I had a look there last year, I must still have their part code given to me from one technician somewhere but never bothered ordering them...

Would love to George, have only managed to get my hands on one though, first time I looked under the bonnet I noticed they were gone.

At some point will get a second.

They do nothing, really i was not being serious.

If you did want to cover the top, duck tape does as well.

i assume the top caps are there to keep water from lying in the metal cups.

That's why he's saying I should tape a duck over it, so the water runs off it's back........................is it Friday yet?
