handbrake mot failure

Featured Replies

Just a little quickkie question about my mot failure on the handbrake ( one side not as powerful as the other)

I went to adjust the cable under the rear ashtray and noticed the adjuster is wonky, so the n/s is under more tension than the o/s.     I did a search for this on here but my 2001 fabia has drums and not discs, and was unable to find any info.

Three months ago i had the shoes off and lubed up the adjusters, so i don't think they are at fault..

any ideas?  Maybe i should try a new set of shoes?

The lever that the cable attaches to within the drum seems to have a tendency to seize at the point it hinges onto the shoe.

This causes the handbrake to not work on the affected side, and a wonky equaliser bar at the point where the cables join.

As wino says .I had this on one side. Cure- remove drum, remove shoes on affected side ,lub the hinge pin and work till it moves freely .
