Citigo 60ps oil change after first 1000 miles?

Featured Replies

The running- in threads generally concur that one should do this to remove all the gunk from the manufacturing process. My dealer says don't waste my money. I know this is a maintenance topic but the oil sticky there doesn't cover this specific question. Could I ask: has anyone here done this? (Mine is a Sport and I have driven it in a lively fashion - once hot - as I believe that's the best running-in method!). Thanks in anticipation.

I think in days gone by this was good practice. But with new engines it doesn't seem to be the done thing. I'm sure there is an honest john blog thingy about this subject.

I have just changed mine with the filter after 6 months and only 2.1K milage. search for oil/filter change

Obviously, no harm will be done by an early oil/filter change (except to pocket)...but it's difficult to believe that there's much advantage, either.

Modern oils and filters are so much better than "in years gone by"...and car makers would be specifying an early change if it was deemed necessary...like they used to. At one time, there was a change at 300-500 miles and another at 1000-1500, before regular changes at 3000 or 5000 miles intervals. How things change!

It isn't worth doing and if you have free servicing, you can lose the last service as it will be pushed over to the next year.

I take the view, won't do any harm, if it makes you feel happier then worth doing.  Don't know how much a Citigo sump holds but can't be that much so cost low to do.  Could be one of those things you do yourself if you are happy to do so.  Won't harm the service record then and only you will know!

Cost of oil and filter around £40. Time 1/2 hour. I have done this on a few of my new cars a few of which have lasted well over 160,000 miles without major engine work?
