New Skoda SUV...

Featured Replies

Not strictly a Superb thread but thought the 2 new SUVs on this weeks Auto Express cover might be of interest.

Much discussion over the next gen Superb has already been had and it is more than likely to be replaced with an SUV (of some sorts).

It's already clear that the range has been stretched somewhat - the Octavia 3 is now nearly as big as the current Superb and as a result of the space in the model line up, the Rapid has been introduced. I think the theory being that the Rapid is placed where the Octavia Mk1 originally was, with the current Octavia moving up to cover the Superb going (in it's current form).

The Superb name will still remain, and still be the top of the range, albeit on an SUV / 4x4.

I can't wait to see what the next Superb will be! I do hope it'll have a mix of sport and luxury to it. As others have stated that it could end up being an evoque/ range rover sport kind of vehicle... How about something similar to the X6/ Infinity FX50... but more tasteful! :)

I thought that there would be two SUVs in the line-up: the new Yeti, and an all new 7-seat model based on the 2014 VW Tiguan LWB - codenamed "snowman", for Skoda release in 2016.

The chief designer has already been talking about the 2016 Superb.

Have a look here (in German): http://www.autozeitung.de/auto-neuheiten/neue-skoda-modelle-rapid-spaceback-fabia-superb-combi-yeti-citifun-gn-401626?page=0,1

Rumours are that the Superb 3 (model B8) will be 8 inches longer wheelbase, and out in late 2015/16.  Artist's impression of the Superb 3 Combi here (picture 7): http://www.autozeitung.de/auto-neuheiten/neue-skoda-modelle-rapid-spaceback-fabia-superb-combi-yeti-citifun-gn-401626/Skoda-Superb-Combi/n401626/7?panorama=1

Kinda hope the current hatch/estate variant remains in the superb3. I can't imagine any SUV platform being as big in terms of boot or rear legroom, and for me at least, that's why I bought a superb in the first place

For What it's Worth (not a lot, probably), my take is that the large SUV is not going to be the Superb. The original announcement of the big SUV a couple of months ago, could have been interpreted as suggesting that it would be called the Superb, but it was not clear. Keep in mind that the Superb has been Skoda's large saloon / limousine as far back as the 1930's. I can't see them suddenly applying that name to a stretched Touareg.

I would buy a skoda people carrier

I'd rather die than buy a people carrier

;) ;) ;) ;)

The problem is that once you make a car a foot taller and much boxier, you end up with a far less aerodynamic vehicle. Keep em low and long.

That's one reason why my 2.0 Superb gets far better consumption on the motorway than my short and boxy (but good) 1.9tdi Roomster ever did.

Still, if the Octavia III fills the gap, that's not too bad. A new Superb significantly larger than the Octavia would be getting a bit unwieldy.

Stuart

The german magazine quoted that the wheel base would be increased by 8 cm, not 8 inches so the new Superb might not be as large as we think.

It could be similar to the next generation Mondeo, (due in 2014) or maybe a true competitor to an E class or a 5 series.

I suspect that Skoda management still want to have a flagship saloon/combi in the line-up, rather than a stretched SUV, if only to provide transport for Czech government!

I can't see the name going on a school runner, it's always been the name for the big saloon and I think it will stay the same, given the success of the car can you imagine Skoda ruining that and the Gen 3 Octavia is nowhere near as large as the Gen 2 Superb let alone a longer Gen 3 Superb, if anything the Gen 3 needs to be a bit wider rather than longer to balance the shape up properly,

I've never sat in a Gen 2 that felt the same way my old Gen 1 B5.5 variant did, the old Superb was what the Passat should always have been a much nicer better car and although dynamic wise the Gen 2 is better I still think the Gen 1 had an overall better shape.

.......and hopefully they're stick some bigger engines in it!
