Fabia Sport Cam Belt

At my next service in March 2014, my car will be 4 years old with approx. 35000 miles on the clock. I have a Service Package with my local Skoda dealer so this big service and MOT is effectively paid for. However, they suggest the Cam Belt and Water Pump should be done at a cost of £369 inc. Vat. Just wondered what you would do; have the work done or wait till nearer 45000 miles.

Cheers,

£369 including VAT is at least cheaper than 'Skodas National Service/Maintenance Pricing' of £299 for Fabia Cam belt change and £100 more if Water Pump needs replaced.

Up to you if you get the service done at the time and then put the car in later and get the cambelt/pump done,

if the price is still going to be £369, then maybe worth waiting.Your Anti Freeze should be getting changed,

Did your Brake Fluid get changed at the 3 Year Service?

Assuming your Sport is a TDi, this earlier thread is highly relevant to your situation:

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/225934-19-tdi-cam-belt-change-at-30k/

Responses in this thread helped me decide that a cam belt replacement at 32 k miles and 4 years was unnecessarily early for my 1.9 PD. I left it until 40 k (5 years) with no problems but others will stress it's better to be safe than sorry...

Cam belt changing, is a very grey area, some say change after 4 years, the manual doesn't give  a time just a mileage.

The mileage works out at 6 years, however I understand that Skoda use Continental Belts, and Continental say the belt should last the life of the engine.

I've seen in an earlier thread that Skoda issued a service note to say change after 4 years, if that is so why does it not say it in the manual of my 2009 Fabia Estate.

Also the Elsawin manual just gives a mileage, it also gives a prediction of when to change the belt.  I do about 7K per year my prediction is 2031, so make of it what you will!

Cheers,
