Skoda Convertible plans on the horizon?

Featured Replies

Are there no plans to make a Convertible in 2014 or 2015?

I have had Octavia VRS for my last 3 cars and im starting to miss my old VW Cabriolet. Especially this Year seeing as we have had some great weather. Im seriously contemplating getting an Audi A4 or A5 2 door coupe convertible to scratch the itch metaphorically speaking. I would however idealy like to stay in the Skoda Stable of the VAG camp having had all 4 types. Is it just me or are Skoda missing a trick by not having a convertible in their line up. If it was based on the Octy VRS or even the Rapid i think it would sell well.

What are your thoughts?

Skoda have abandoned the Fabia vRS saying that it's not part of where the company wants to go. So whilst a convertible would be nice (The RS2000 was a fantastic idea) it seems that Skoda has no plans to make "fun" cars any more :(

Not sure about the relevance. The Fabia VRS was sacked off because of low volume. Its aimed at a market where the kids are more bothered about the car looking sporty than driving sporty(Hense the sucess of the Monti). A Convertible is aimed at a rather different market. Not sure how many A3,A4 & A5 cabs or VW Eos get sold but i would guess more than the Fabia VRS.

P.S lets keep on topic please not about the extinct Fabia VRS.

I wasn't trying to digress.....

In this article:

http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/frankfurt-motor-show/skoda-fabia-vrs-axed

....was this....

"Meanwhile, Skoda design chief Jozef Kaban doused any hopes for a Skoda sports car, citing discrepancies between any such model and the brand's direction."

Niche models have popped up every now and again, so the concept of a car that few people will want isn't foreign to Skoda. (I have one of the 400 remaining Fun Trucks, now there was a vehicle very few people wanted - just 642 in the UK over about 5 years) So, I'm not sure that volume alone should kill-off a particular spec within a model. It wouldn't be hard to go to build to order instead. I think it was more of an excuse than a reason. Wouldn't be hard to put the Monte kit onto the vRS. ;)

Anyway, it does seem that Skoda want to move away from the sportier side of the market. Which, given the RS2000 concept, is a huge shame. The RS2000 is a great-looking car. I wonder if the idea is to refine the marque (losing the still present Skoda jokes) and then make somethine for the weekend in a few years time.

The new Octavia vRS seems to have gone for understated upmarket looks too.

The Fabia MK2 vRS has not been cancelled or sacked off,or axed,  Just not to be a vRS as part of the new model range.

The MK2 vRS might have only sold around 2500 in the UK in 3 years,

but they are taking orders still now on new ones

& have not announced when they will stop taking orders or building the current version, so not actually 'Axed', well yet.

( maybe a loss in translation there. or in the spin.)

or the date of MK3 Fabias becoming available or orders being taken on those.

The vRS sold more than double that of the Polo GTI Twinchargers in the UK, which VW never seem to mention,

or the Audi A1 185PS which sold very few. (and never gets mentioned as being a sister car.)

They launched the Seat Ibiza Cupra 2013 model and no mention of when these will stop production.

They have said they are not going to Produce a Fabia MK3 vRS version. Then the Spokesperson, did not rule anything out.

There is no word on the engines yet to be in the MK3 Fabias.

What they do have coming is a Audi A1 S1, & maybe a replacement Hot Polo, or maybe not.

As to the success of the Monte Carlo Fabias.

They are selling & the CEO of VW was reported by TG magazine as saying, they thought they would sell 3000

and they produced 20,000

**Why so long waiting lists if they have produced so many, maybe lost in translation.**

Well Fabia is the biggest selling Model by Skoda in the UK in 2013, by a fair bit.

There are only just over 4,000 Monte Carlos registered in the UK in the last 2 years,

Is there a bit of spin going on maybe.

ffs why did I bother, thanks George

Whats your problem,

not receiving the answer you want on the Convertible,

or me questioning the Axing of MK2 Fabia vRS's that we have not heard of being actually axed.

only the name when a MK3 comes out.

VW do some quite nice convertibles.

They sold in the UK about 50% more Eos than MK2 vRS, but then they came in a wide choice of engines and gearboxes.

Your incessant ramblings are enough to put anyone off answering my original query, can you not understand that I couldn't give a flying f**k about the fabia. I could buy one if I wanted one but personally I don't like them or want one or want to talk about them you clearly do and im sure there is a platform for you venting splene about them but it certainly isn't in a thread titled  "Skoda Convertible plans on the horizon?" if I didn't know better I would think you were employed by Audi using subterfuge to hide any underlying desire for a Skoda Cabriolet to rival the Audi offerings and spoil the party.

No there are not any plans for Skoda Convertibles on the horizon,

found this out by following the news that Skoda a VAG let out and leak. Reading several magazines a month and some weeklies.

(& Google helps.)

So that might mean they will announce one just shortly.

Well its about bloody time that new rapid id the perfect shape for a drop top. I don't see the point in it otherwise.

Love the look but too old for a daily runner, I want something based on the new Octavia or Rapid. Looks like im going to have to get the A5 or A4 Cab due to lack of suitable competition.

I'd buy a Skoda cabrio/ convertible! I agree that Skoda should have one for us, it can't be too difficult to maybe make a Rapid Cabrio 3 door using the Spaceback/ Lift back, or an A4 rival octavia 3 door or something!

Surprised Seat didn't manage to make the Exeo Cabriolet considering they inherited the old A4 Avant and Saloon.

Maybe if they thought less than 3000 vRS 1.4tsi sold in the UK in 3 1/2 years is low volume,

they are not going to build a Skoda soft top car that will shift only a few hundred a year,

and if it sold well,  detracted sales from their premium brands.

They must be looking at discontinuing the likes of the Roomster surely, now that it sells so few.

Maybe a Soft Top Roomster would be the thing.

george

It might work better with the Roomster than the Yeti.

That's the roomster pick up study, not a convertible. The yeti with the removable roof was a great concept!

You could always buy a retro rapid cabriolet!?

midi.jpg

It was a Roomster Pickup study obviously,  but its not that hard to use your imagination,

roof removable like the Yeti Study.

Just mix 'Babs' pic with the others, result.

Skoda remake of a Citroen Pluriel.

Hmm, I feel your way off point on what im after. Im don't want something that's a bit left field. I want basically a Octy VRS with a drop top. Is that to much to ask? or even the rapid could be styled to look like that A3 you linked earlier.

I'm sorry to say that a Skoda Cabrio would be uncool

just buy an EOS with the 2.0TSI if you want a car like the vrs

If I wanted to be cool I wouldn't be driving a Skoda. I Happen to think if skoda made a cabriolet it would be the best one on the market for the money. i'd say sub £30k

I agree, but most people who drive cabrios like to think they are cool

I think you will have a long wait for your Skoda Cabrio, unless you want to get the angle grinder out

Most people who buy cabrio cars never have the roof down is what I observe.
