Removing aftermarket alarm/immobiliser

Featured Replies

My 2003 octavia vrs has an aftermarket alarm and immob fitted, laserline kit. When i bought the car the alarm fob battery was dead so i just used the immob fob on the dash to deactivate the alarm. When my boot lock stopped working i replaced the alarm battery incase someone opened my boot the alarm would go off. Now tho the alarm wont get a signal from my fob so im back to using the immob fob. Which takes approx 5 seconds to deactivate the immob everytime. I took parts of the dash out and altho i never found the immob box i found some of its wiring. I found one wire going to the relay that is active when the ignition is on so the immob doesnt activate with keys in ignition. I also came across another wire which killed power to the immob & alarm but the car wouldnt start still so must have another supply of power. If i can find the power to it and kill it, should this work to deactivate it, another option is to connect a permanent live to the wire going to ignition relay but will this kill the battery?

My car still has its transponder key so is still secure.

Also my boot still doesnt lock but does have power to unlock it, any ideas?

Further update, ive now located the main box, theres numberous wires going to it. Shiz!

There are, as you have discovered loads of wires. To be thatcham approved none of these wires will have identifying features, which will make removal even harder. The cars original wiring will have been altered around the control box and will no longer be the correct length to connect the ends together. As you are finding out removing a Thatcham approved system is very difficult, and its meant to be.

I respect and appeciate that its not supposed to be easy to remove, it was installed by a professional. One thing to note is that it kills power to the starter motor, the fuel pump still primes so i assume it kills power to the coils aswell.

Best bet would be to get a dealer or alarm installer sort.

Or leave it alone? Its just annoying having to deactivate it all the time

I removed an after market alarm from a MK 3 Golf, on first look I thought as you did Shiz!

BUT, if you follow the wires from the main box to the joins by the fuse box you will notice that a wire from the fuse box to the fuel pump will have been cut, then the immobiliser will be fitted to each of the cut wires, remove immob wires and rejoin the fuel pump wires, then repeat this for the ignition wires, finally follow the rest of the wires to there ends and you will see they are just live and earth wires which can be removed.

All you have to do is be careful, follow all wires and make good joins, I was amazed at how easily an immob can be removed, I did however end up with a carrier bag full of wires!

Thanks mate. Will look towards the fuse box

Altho on the side of the immob box was 5 little switches i flicked the two that were down up and now the alarm activates after 20 seconds of me locking the car with my normal fob so i did something

Do you have any way of finding out who fitted it?

This will be your best bet as it will cost a fortune to get someone to remove it.

I had a quote of getting an alarm removed and re-fitted into my new car by the guy who fitted it originally. The quote was the same as a brand new alarm inc fitting.

Installers have their own methods of doing things, like programmers so one thatcham approved installer will do things differently to others. This makes it even more difficult to remove

DEACTIVATED!!

For anyone who wishes to know how i did it, on the side of the immob box are 6 little tiny switches some do different things. After messing around for 20mins and flicking switches with number 1,5 & 6 flicked down the immob no longer operates. Altho you cant simply just flick switches and expect it to work, this sets the alarm off. You need to deactivate the immob with the fob, then flick the switches.

I still have it all installed so if i ever want to reactivate i can do.

Just need to fix my boot lock now :/

Thanks everyone for your help :)

Simple fix and no spaghetti to fight with like I did.  Lucky there mate.

Yeah glad i didnt have to completely remove it saved alot of hassle

I fitted a toad thatham alarm to my parents jcb telehandler and i would never like to have to remove it, am not an approved installer but am sure i could do a dam site better job that some of the efforts ive seen in the past,

If you can find the control box then following the wires shouldn't be to hard trace
