And another vRS ordered....!

Featured Replies

Well after many weeks of thinking about, and trying to justify it or not to justify it I finally done the deal today!

I wanted the hatch, but upon looking for pictures of various colours online we found a photo of a white vRS estate for sale at a dealer, myself and my wife looked at it, and said 'thats what we want!!' it was an instant joint, YES moment if you know what I mean!  SWMBO agreed that it looked good, so 20 minutes later I am sat in the dealer to do some haggling!

They didnt want to play ball on any haggling, but in the end the garage owner was there and I said that I was ready to order there and then, and after the crap that I went through 18 months ago buying a car from them that he was lucky I was even thinking about buying a car from them, explaining that the crap they made me go through ended up with me a grown man sitting in the showroom almost in tears last time I bought a car from them (I am a sensitive guy and take things to heart!!) and he accepted that what they done was unacceptable and if they could do a 'proper' deal would I go ahead, I said yes I would!

Anyway, they had just put the DSG Diesel vRS demo estate on the road, so I was given the keys and told to go and make sure it was what I wanted, so off I went for about an hour, took it on some A roads, round town and some 70mph dual carriageway roads, tried the stop/start and also normal mode, went through the eco, normal and sport modes and could feel the difference on them and I suspect around town 'eco' mode would make sense then 'normal' for relaxed cruising and 'sport' for fun time!!!  Overall, I found the seats really comfortable and they moulded around me perfectly, the seat positioning was great, the ride quality wasnt as harsh as my current vRS, overall I felt it a bit more refined, in some ways its not exciting inside, but it does give a nice blend between sporty look and some sporty touches along with the practicality of a family car, and doesnt 'stand' out as I dont like my cars to stand out, I like them to look slightly different from a standard model but not OTT, overall, I think this car fits that bill, it is what it is meant to be, a sporty family car with some touches to make it sporty and something which has extra poke under the bonnet compared to a normal model, if I wanted a loud looking car I would have a bright green Focus RS or something.

Anyway, they gave me my PX price, which was slightly below what I wanted, but then I managed to negotiate a small discount I think it works out at about 3% or thereabouts, plus sunset glass for free and private plate transfer included for free as well.

So overall I have ended up with a new car on a new PCP deal for 42 months for less than I am currently paying so cant really complain about that!

Should see it by the end of the year, probably around Xmas, but will hopefully be confirmed next week, so what have I ordered.

Octavia vRS Estate

TDI DSG box

Candy White

Sunset Glass

Black Pack

Standard Cruise

Colour Maxi-Dot

Heated Seats

Red trimmed Interior

Anthracite Gemini Wheels

Although I have done the deal, paid my deposit etc I have asked the dealer to hold off actually ordering the car until Monday in case I decided to add any other little extras, ideally I wanted the sunroof but at near a grand it is something which I can live without!

However, having never had an estate car before is there anything on the options list worth having?  i.e. the boot net, double sided floor, variable level floor etc what are they and what do they do?  Are they worth having as they are cheap options really?

The estate also came out cheaper than the hatch as it has a better residual value despite its slightly higher purchase price.

My views on the new vRS are that its an 'evolution' of the existing model, its not a radical overhaul, its mainly just bought things a bit more up to date, love the fact that the things I had as options or wanted as options on previous vRS actually come as standard now i.e. bluetooth, MFSW, maxi-dot, xenons, LED lights, parking sensors etc are all now standard so it means I can have a few other things instead, looking forward to the extra technology in the car etc!

Ideally I wanted to add Amundsen, Canton and Sunroof but it just makes it far too expensive!

Anyway, overall, quite pleased with the deal and now its the long wait til it arrives, and its my birthday on Saturday so a good prezzie to myself I think!!!!

Congrats on the purchase, sounds a nice motor. Oh, and happy birthday!

I think people are finding the sunroof option delays delivery significantly which is a shame because it looks great.

I've had a couple of octavia estate and I've only used the double boot floor when using it for work, otherwise it is a pain taking everything out to get at it. Ended up removing it. Same with the nets - only any use if you travel with the boot half empty and that never happens with kids. A floor covering is good - makes it easier to clean the boot out and you don't worry about wet wellies, bikes, etc.

Sounds REALLY nice by the way. I'm holding off for a 14 plate and beginning to regret it!

Think about the variable boot floor: it suits some people and not others.  You get less space in the boot with it there, but there's still plenty: I like it because (a) it's easier to lift things in and out as it's on a level with the bumper, and (B) you can sit on it to dole put a picnic /put trainers on etc.

One thing you haven't mentioned is the space-saver spare wheel - essential because a can of gunk can't repair all punctures and you could find yourself stranded out of mobile range.

It not so much that you loose space with variable boot floor but it's just that you have to use it differently. Personally, I find mine really useful but I rarely need to use the full depth of the boot. As above, it's great for giving a level floor space from the boot lip and it's handy for stashing all the small stuff that goes on a camping trip but isn't needed till the tent's up.

Thanks chaps, so if I went for the variable boot floor, then am I right in thinking that it would then be level with the tailgate itself, and you can lift it up to get to things stored underneath?  i.e clothes, rags, oil can, etc save having them in the side bins or rolling around the floor, if thats the case is it able to be lifted a certain amount of length i.e. 50cm from the back a sort of bend in the material to make a sort of latch to whats underneath, or is purely a flat piece of stuff and thats it?

If it is hinged halfway for example and it opened up as another small storage area underneath that woudl be really handy.

That's exactly what it does.

Perfect, think I will add that then, some storage etc and a level boot will be handy, presume the spare would go under that does it??

Agree with the bit about being able to sit on the boot - that's really handy. Also good for sticking things in you would rather not be in sight - the boot then looks empty. It's easily removed (well it is on the MkII) if you don't get on with it.

Maybe double sided boot floor covering and trunk lid power closing. I love it.

Under the variable boot floor is another, thinner, cover. That lifts up to reveal the spare wheel and wheel tool kit. Really good value at £75 for a 16" steel wheel and ,in  my car, (1.4Tsi ) a full size Michelin Energy tyre.

If it is hinged halfway for example and it opened up as another small storage area underneath that woudl be really handy.

The hinge half-way I've also found useful - move it into the raised position and as it creates a narrower space ideal to put bags/folders/stuff so they don't rattle around the entire boot.

Ok, just done the email to the dealer to finish of my options, I have added the variable boot floor as that sounds handy, also the spare wheel as I had forgotten how useful a spray can of gunk is.... also couldnt resist the Canton!!!!!

Will hopefully get an update on the order during the week hopefully, no idea when porovisional build week will come though.

Initially it was expected around Christmas, but as with most vRS's it was delayed, so it looked like it would be late February before delivery to the dealer, so March 1st delivery was set.

Spoke with dealer a few weeks ago and it had BW4, so on target for March 1st, popped in today, and was told it was in the country, delivery expected mid to late next week at the dealer, this afternoon he emailed the docket from Stobarts saying it is coming tomorrow!!!

So I am going over to have a look and get excited tomorrow etc etc, but, now I am thinking shall I have it next week!  I would like a 14 plate, but, I am just too excited!  I have a private plate that can go on it, so I am not too bothered by that, but I have a real issue with trade in time in a few years time, will the 3 weeks between a 63 and 14 plate make that much difference?  I know I have a few long days out planned in February so its sort of telling me to take it now and just enjoy it!

What do you think?

One excited person here, fingers crossed it is to my exact spec tomorrow!

Wait.......simples!

Listen to your heart! Take it!

All depends if you're like me. Arriving next week, I could of collected it and had a 63 plate for 2 weeks then seen a 14 plate and felt sick (I know it's not a biggie to a lot of people, however it is to me), contacted the dealer who agreed to hold it for a 14 plate :)

IMO for the sake of a few weeks when we've already waited this long, it's worth it.

Sensible answer as well :-)

Thats probably the most sensible answer and probably correct, as much as I would love driving it for a few weeks earlier than anticipated, I would feel sick as a pig on March 1st, so it is the proper answer, although seeing the car tomorrow will probably make me very excited and I will want it now!  However, speaking with the dealer today I can't help but get excited about collecting it at Midnight on March 1st, its all sorted and the sales person I use is going to finish work and go home and then do an 80 mile round trip back to the dealership to open up so I can collect it!

So, got the call to say it had arrived safe and well today, so I popped over after lunch to see my new car!  I must say its bloody good!

Had a good look and checked all the options had been fitted etc and it has, overall, its difficult to gain a full impression when its covered in wrappers, but, in general, it looks pretty damn good and am well pleased!

The sensible head has also kicked in and its will be a March 1st registration, or rather the salesman told me he isn't allowing me to have it til then!!!

Anyway, a couple of photos for you!

Congrat!

Love the idea of a white estate, but I know I'm too lazy to keep "her" properly clean.
