xenon headlights

Featured Replies

just noticed the headlights on my 2007 octavia l+k.dont raise and lower when they are switched on.does anybody know what the problem could be.

motors probably gave up

Might be as simple as clearing errors with vcds and they'll start again.

Have you ever had the suspension or parts of it replaced?

Check wether the sensors are fitted round the right way, seems VW Group cars have a habit of them being mounted upside down.

As Ryan mentions, suspension work or anything that involved disturbing any of the 2 ride height sensors can cause the Xenon self leveling to stop working. Alternatively a level sensor may have failed or become disconnected. I'd say it was highly unlikely to be the motors as both have stopped working.

You really need a VCDS scan to see exactly whats going on.

thanks for replying will check what you all said.

This may seem like a strange observation but we have two Octavia's, both with factory fit xenon headlights.

On the wifes 2008 (08) Octavia Scout we get the up and down 'dance' when the headlights are turned on. This is easy to notice as you are able to see the beam projected from the headlights on the road.

However, on my 2007 (57) Octavia vRS the 'dance' was performed as soon as the engine was started, so if the headlights weren't on either when you started the engine or immediately after it was started you missed the 'dance'.

As we owned the Scout first I was used to the procedure so I actually ended up taking the vRS back to garage as I thought there was a fault!

However, if your L&K is now not doing it like it used to then I suspect it is more likely to be one of the issues identifed above.

Had this problem before.

Once was when I found the beam too low. Quick look inside the front nearside wheel arch revealed a broken level sensor linkage. Easy fix to replace, but they linkage wasn't available on its own, so new sensor needed.

The other issue I've has is one light wouldn't level not long after a bulb change and just before an mot. Removed the light and reseated the connector, all ok.

Hi I've just bought a 57 plate vrs at the weekend with xenon head lights. I noticed looking through the paperwork that the MOT it has just had that it had to have the aim of one of the headlights adjusted. Would this indicate a potential problem with the auto levelling?

probably not, the auto leveling simply needs a default point then adjusts its self as a when.

That sounds like a bulb has been changed and adjustment knocked

I'd say probably not too. Although if my Xenons were to go out of aim, I'd have a look with VCDS to see if they had gone out of range, or need electronically resetting before resorting to manually adjusting them.

I doubt it.

We've had our Octavia with xenon's from new. It's been through several MOT's in that time yet at the last one the headlights needed adjusting to pass.

I know it's not had a bulb replacement as I did ask that. The owner had vcds and did a scan with me present and I did see any faults. I will check the auto levelling when I get chance. Thanks for the reply's peeps

You'll soon know if you have a problem...

1) Aim too high - every other car will flash you.

2) Aim too low - you won't be able to see a thing!

The scout isn't behaving correctly. Any car with xenons should do the dance only at engine on. If the lights are on at the time you'll see it.

You shouldn't see it during a journey when you turn them on

I knew it was strange.

I can't say if it does it when I'm moving and I turn on the lights but for sure the engine can be running for some minutes before I set off and when I turn on the lights I see the dance.
