Funny noise from CD player

So today I got In the car and fired her up just like I do every morning. However I got a loud grinding noise which I figured out was coming from the CD player in the Amundsen. It spat the cd out then refused to acknowledge the fact that it plays cd's at all. Every time I put a cd in it just froze for a few seconds then gave me an 'internal error' message.

Turned the car ignition off and back on again (I work in IT ya see...) and it now works fine?

Anyone had this before? Is it an early sign the player is going to die? It's only 11 months old.
