What other gearboxes fit the AUQ engine?

Featured Replies

Im currently embarking on a 1.8T conversion in to a mk2 golf and am wondering what gearboxes fit.  I have been told to use a mk4 golf gear box but wondering whether all other 1.8T engines are all the same in the block.  Could I for example fit any gearbox of a transverse engine?

Also if I used a mk4 gearbox im guessing my clutch and fly wheel wouldn't need changing

I've heard a g60 box will dit but not sure about the details. Head over to the corrado and mk2 website, might yield more answers

Cheers mate

mot convert to the later mk4 setups when doing the mk2 20v conversion as the earlier boxes are not really up to the power of a mapped 20v.

in theory you can fit any mk4 gearbox that mates to the 20v (though transverse are better due to the mounts etc) you want one with the right gearing however hence why the 02j eha suiting the auq is the obvious choice.

yes it will bolt straight up, that's an 02a box, you wouldn't even need to change th clutch and flywheel over if you wanted to use that type..

in my felicia I used an gearbox from a mk3 golf gti 16v which is also a straight bolt up fit onto the 20v turbocharged engines except you have to leave one or two bolts out, also you need to find some long m10 bolts for the starter motor instead of using the m12 ones because of th holes in the engine block being a different size that the ones in the starter. Also you don't need to change the clutch and flywheel over for this type of transmission on a 1.8t engine.... This would be my prime choice because they are cheap and plentiful n breakers yards. Better to use something readily available than a rare one I say...

the other reason for this choice is you can use standard oem driveshafts rather than having to fiddle around with cv joints and bits and bobs.
