Skoda Superb H7 bulbs?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I have a 2009 Superb, and I am in need of some new Halogen H7 bulbs for my projector lights as the right hand side bulb keeps blowing unusually often :/. I think it's because they are cheap ones and so I need some new bulbs as i am all out of spares.

Does anyone, with the same car as i have, have any suggestions as to which bulbs to buy based on experience or personal opinions? I want ones which perform highly (give very good light output) as well as a good lifespan as i don't want to keep buying bulbs too often.

I was looking at the Osram night breaker plus and some Phillips ones, but I'm unsure about the lifespan of these bulbs? Please suggest others if you feel there are better options!

Thanks!

That's exactly why, cheap ones,

I and another cabby had this issue on our 1990's Vectra's, the solution was to buy only VX bulbs which I always do and have done since regardless of which car I own, iirc they are a GM branded Osram bulb.

Yeah thought as much! Anyone else who would like to comment?

I've used Nightbreaker Plus H7 bulbs in 2 cars before. The difference in light output vs normal halogen bulbs is amazing. It's a good cheap upgrade against HIDs. Life expectancy is 18-24 months of average driving.

For £15 a pair, it's one of the best value upgrades you can do IMO. Stick them in the main beams as well if you can find bulbs that will fit.

There's also a gold plated connector version of the Nightbreakers available for c.£20, if that rocks your boat.

Thank you for the info! :) And what advantages does the gold plated version have over the original?

£15 a pair is good value if they do last, bear in mind I have mine on and off an average of 4 hours a day at work, the VX bulbs retail will be around £8 - £12 each, I snag em for £4 each as I have access to trade club.

I wouldn't call it an advantage per se, but the gold plated ones produce an even whiter light than the nightbreaker plus. They also have gold plated connectors Personally, I'd go for the normal ones.

Another question, will i need to get the headlights realigned after replacing the H7's?

No you shouldn't have to get them realigned as you are only changing the bulb and not removing the headlight

Thanks guys, i got the osram nightbreaker plus bulbs. Only just received and fitted them and so haven't had a chance to test them at night. I only replaced the right bulb as that was the one that had gone. Do you recommend that i replace the left one as well (it is still working)?

Yes I would replace them both. Not so necessary with standard ones but with my upgraded ones I've always done in pairs.

The projector lights on the superb seem to be a weak point? I replaced the standard units with +90% items and even with these fitted the dip beam is only decent rather than outstanding. I have fitted similar bulbs to other cars with conventional reflectors and seen a bigger improvement. Luckily the standard high beam are fine and the cornering lights take care of the close up work.
