Citigo purchase advice

Featured Replies

Hi,  Have decided to order a Citigo on Saturday.  Elegence 60PS red 5 door, with standard Skoda 0% PCP and free servicing.  Happy enough with negotiated deal (small discount on list price, free mats, mudflaps and tank of fuel) and fair trade in value higher than elsewhere against a citigo , trade in fixed at agreed price regardless of delivery date of citigo.  Was going to go for SE with alloys and leather pack, so makes sense to pay a few hundred quid extra for the full elegence plus being in Aberdeen heated seats would be used!

But seeking opinions from owners on following:

I deffo will get the sunset glass, but seeking opinions on going for the summer package namely paying £500 extra for the sunroof.  Worth it or not?

Alloys.  As i want a spare wheel anyway could effectively upgrade alloys to 15" for £150.  Thoughts?

Also any of the other factory extras available that owners already have - worth it or not?

My profile is I have a short commute daily, most common passenger being my 3 year old.  Mainly city road driving, my city's roads being poor.  Not being a youngster stripes, speaker upgrade etc perhaps not relevant to me as I have yet to have a mid life crisis.  Also being advanced driving trained, citysafe option perhaps less relevant to me (sods law I will prang the car week one)

Have seen some excellent posts on here from knowledgeable owners would appreciate any advice...

Hi

Definitely Alloys I would go for and the sunset glass

I know you say the roads are poor round you, but even with 15" alloys the ride is very good.

Not a fan of sunroofs but thats up to you

Definitely have a spare wheel instead of compressor and slime

Save the cash from the summer package and put it towards an alarm

Enjoy the car when you get it

Cheers

Thanks Damo your opinion deffo valued.  Citigo to replace Hyundai i10 - when test drove the Citigo really noted vastly improved ride quality but that was on 14" alloys.  Concerned 15" would make  a big difference, agree 100% re sunset makes a huge difference to appearance of car plus practical benefits.... Like the spec on the sport but I am perhaps too old and untrendy to drive one....

Nonsense, your never too old ;)

And the cabin is a nice place to be in the Sport (get it stripe free if you ask)

I think the stripes look good on the Sport,I don't get this 'Im too old for stripes, alloys etc' -my motto is 'if it feels good do it'.Im no spring chicken but still have a 'young' outlook on life and hopefully soon, will driving my long awaited Sport complete with stripes etc.

Ok perhaps if not too old perhaps too boring :)

I can recommend getting the sunset glass, with the semi blacked out rear windows it's sort of hard to see clearly what's in there.

The entertainment pack is a must, the extra speakers I think add to the listening experience.

A spare wheel, far cheaper to spec it on the order than buy it afterwards, think around £100 difference.

Larger dia alloys, not my thing, well not on the Citigo anyway. It's my daily runaround so not really needed.

The sunroof, again it's not really needed, you've got aircon. I had a car with a sunroof, I forgot I had it most of the time so never used.

And just mats I reckon and that's it.

Didn't bother with the city safe or whatever it's called. It's like a device that there just incase you forget to brake, so what are you doing instead?

The heated seats will toast your bum on full, nice! The sat nav is good for me, never taken me wrong yet. It's a good package. I have the elegance in Silver Leaf.

Ok perhaps if not too old perhaps too boring :)

Yet again maybe I just never bothered to grow up and age gracefully!.

Oh and just to add, I've just taxed and insured mine, tax £0000, nice, insurance well it could have been as little as £114 but that was with a not too well known to me company, so went with one for £156 on a multi car policy.

We had a debate about the sunroof -looking at the future value of the car come trade in time in a few years, it was decided that it would not be financially worthwhile spending the extra money on it unless we really wanted it (we weren't too bothered)

I'm also not a big fan of the sunroof, it's the only option my Red Elegance didn't have.

Don't see the point with air-con and the windows go down for free.

Plus some cars as they get older can suffer with leaks, which make a mess of the interior out of warranty.

Main thing you should get IMO is the spare wheel.

Everything else is personal taste.

The Elegance is a good spec as standard, it doesn't really NEED anything else. :)

Thanks everyone all valued opinions, seems like the citigo can meet the needs of many !

I would have the variable cargo area - false floor to split the boot - and you need to specify the extra warranty (to 5 years) when you order (if you want it) or it will cost you more.

I'd go for the cargo floor too. In fact I'm going to retrofit it to mine.

I'd quite like a sunroof but not at 650!

Definitely spare wheel.... read the tales of woes of the gunk users.

Agreed Elegance is a good spec and nothing else bar a spare wheel is needed.

I'm 48 and not too old for my Sport. I like the stripe on it :)

Heated seats are great in the winter!

Back in the day i was thinking to get 15" that time was no option to upgrading it, luckily i did't fool myself. Little different for the price of £150 but at the end it's all about the look. t.b.h. in all kind of weather it's hard to believe it's safer/better-riding-quality. Heavy rain or snow skinnier tire the way to go.

Facts: f.cks up fuel consumption, wears brake pads/bearings quicker, poorer acceleration, and takes more time to come to a halt on straight line breaking. If you want to go sideways into corners and want to 'pimp' your car and don't care the rest go for it.

Two speakers so '80s... sounds '80s zero enjoyment personally i think upgraded six speakers still only so-so. I would go for extra speakers for the price of 15" alloys.

I love the sunroof, this summer was nice and was enjoying every minutes of it closed, open or party open. It's a price to pay! You kinda seem to me have good reasons why you are picking up CitiGo. Options always a waste when it comes to trade in.

Ask yourself a question Do you NEED it or WANT it. :-)

I have a sunroof and sunset glass on my Elegance. It's great. In fact I'm expecting my new Elegance Auto any day now. That will have sunroof, citysafe, lowered suspension, cruise, spare wheel and of course automatic tran.

Really, it's each to her or his own. I never buy a car with a view to its future value. I want to enjoy it and so far I've enjoyed my current Citigo (bought second hand in April) immensely.

I have done short trips, long trips and very long trips and not found my Citigo wanting.

Good luck.

John

Sunroof is a must and it comes with free sunset glass,

We also extended the Warranty/breakdown cover  to 5 years for £250, worth every penny but must be ordered before the car is registered as it's classed as a factory option

Sunroof is great, we use it most days when it is possible to do so.  :rain:

Sunset glass looks good, especially when you choose a light body colour, we have Silver Leaf

Thanks for everyones advice which definitely helped me make my choice - car was ordered today.  If had the money would have had two cars a sporty spec AND a sensible spec.  So went for:

Elegence 5 door 60PS greentech in red.  Sunset glass, entertainment pack, spare wheel, variable boot floor, and decided as was only 2.4% more to do so, the 4/5 yr warranty.  Most difficult decision was not to go for the sunroof, but have 4 weeks in which I can amend order/win lottery.   Figured for the price of sunroof could get the year 4&5 warranty and a set of spare winter tyres (bearing in mind I am in North East Scotland). I have winters on my main family car a VW Touran, and this makes a massive difference.     Dealer will fit flaps and mats (rubber, will buy some cloth ones in the summer and rotate them).

Approx 12-14 weeks so that would be my xmas present to me.  Dealer was telling me that they are unable to increase build rate of Citigo/Up/mii, as the plant is running a maximum capacity already.  Was discussing the (horrible IMO) clear plastic photo clip on the dash of the 2014 model, and the dealer said they will try to see if it can be removed, probably by removing central dash trim area, prevent me making a hash of it.

So happy with choice.  Happy with price.  Happy with dealer (Ian, West End Edinburgh, who has been great thus far and this gives me a 1 in 5 chance that car reg will begin "SK").  And very appreciative to all Britskoda members help and info I think I'll stick around here if it's ok with everyone...

By the way, my first Skoda was a brand new 2004 Fabia.  Still with it's first tank of fuel, a couple of weeks old, another driver failed to give way at a junction and t-boned my Fabia being driven my my now wife.  Fabia knocked onto its side and into concrete bollard.  Every panel of Fabia was damaged, car a write-off.  But Mrs climbed out uninjured, from the inside the car looked undamaged. Point being VAG and in particular Skoda always close to my heart for this reason.  Probably saved her life as had just traded in a Daewoo Matiz.  When my daughter was born I gave her middle the name Fabia - that by the way is a joke.  Her middle name is Skoda

Was discussing the (horrible IMO) clear plastic photo clip on the dash of the 2014 model,

It was the clip that swayed us towards the CitiGo

I am quite happy that my new car will have the dashboard clip-havent' a clue what I am going to use it for but, will cross that bridge when I get to it!.

And very appreciative to all Britskoda members help and info I think I'll stick around here if it's ok with everyone...

Its a pleasure to have you aboard :)

Think you did right with the sunroof

Warranty and winter tyres much more beneficial IMO

Lets hope its here for Xmas then...Now that's what I call a present :D

Cheers
