MDI - Samsung Galaxy S2 - Whats the point?

Featured Replies

Hi,

So i now have the correct lead for the MD interface in the car, i got the Micro USB (the (almost) standard fitting for most smart phones).

I was under the impression that, by plugging in the MDI lead and phone i should be able to control the music on my phone via the radio unit as well as viewing whats playing on the screen? and access contacts for the phone?

I don't really know what it does TBH, the instructions i find are c**p and just say how to plug it in, not what i can do and trouble shooting.

Is my phone compatible? do i need to do anything so my phone can detect the car once plugged in?

At the moment it seems like a redundant system as i can access and change music via blue tooth, along with all my phone contacts.

Any advice welcome

The MDI is purely for media -it has no telephone functionality at all. Plugging your phone in to it will make the phone mount as removable storage -in your case using it that way is absolutely pointless as you have Bluetooth anyway.

You're better off getting a USB memory stick or a portable hard drive (if you have that much music) and connecting that to the MDI and leaving it in the car.

I have the note 2 and connected it up after paying the £20+ price tag. Waste of money. ..got a refund. I wasn't expecting to be able to view anything other music but it didn't even do that properly. My opinion is that it is designed more for apple devices. Buy a cheap ipod with the refund of the mdi and use that.

I find the MDI useful for charging my iPhone when driving - can't be arsed setting up playlists - if I want to listen to music I just do it via Bluetooth.

So im getting the idea that the car has several means to play the same thing! Thankfully i didnt pay for the cable. I now have an ipod/usb/micro usb cable so i have options now haha!

Anyone know how to make a GalaxyS2 viewable to the MDI? As soon as i plug my phone on the MDI option disappears but my phone charges and says its in usb storage mode(or summin like that)

Cheers

It won't see it as a media player - just a storage device in the same way windows explorer does; if at all.

I just use a USB stick with mp3s on it - or stream a playlist through Bluetooth from the iphone (but you could just use the jack input; this cancels the MDI by the way as it's one or the other).

on a diffrent note....

Does anyone know what the tick option in the system menue is for:

'activate aux 2 input'   ( think thats what it says...not in the car but its something like that.)

cheers
