Fitting a dashcam in a mkII Octy- routing of power cable

Featured Replies

Hi peeps,

I've had a Blakvue dashcam for a couple of months and hopefully will finally get round to fitting it soon. When I got it out of the box and offered it up between the screen and the rear view mirror I woundered what would be the best option to neatly route the power cable from the gap between the headlining and the screen down to the dashcam. Anyone got any suggestions?

cheers

Directly up to the headlining, then along inside that to the side with the fusebox (probably driver's side).

Then down inside the A pillar trim and follow the rubber door seal into the fuse box area and go under/through the dash.

Use one of the supplied small clips to hold the cable right up near the headlining so it stays as straight as possible.

That's as neat as you can get unless the car has wires to the rear view mirror, so you have somewhere to tuck it in.

Fubar has a thread on this. I used it and was extremely helpful.

I fitted a digicam up behind the mirror, got the cable absolutly neatly out of sight behind the roof lining trim or whatever you call that stuff, just tucked it in with my fingertips.

Popped off the trim down the "A" pillar and job done.

Far far more straightforward than I had anticipated.

And absolutly out of sight.

I still show the cable in my install from the camera to the roof lining but it's not very much, I didn't go too in depth on routing of cable in the pics sense but they give the general idea. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/265343-dash-cam-12v-multi-adaptor-hidden-install-driver-storage-compartment

I just put the cable straight from the camera to the headlining. I did the same when I had the BlackVues in and the other 4 types of camera I have used, cables always been routed like this in the car for me (hate wires showing). Only way I can think of to make it ever so slightly more discrete would be to bring the cable to the mounting point of rear view mirror to windscreen (also attached to rear of mirror casing in straight lines with a right angle and afix it with a clip / thin cable tie / wrap it around once, then straight up dead centre of the screen with the shortest distance shown. I never attached any cabling to the casing of mirror as I didn't want to restrict the ability to move rear view mirrors position in the event any other human being ever is allowed to drive the car, in case it would snag or tug on the camera etc.

Current camera the amazingly good yet scary cheap Mobius looks like this with the self adhesive mount as where I specifically wanted it the plug sts just below mirror itself (will change it for a new right angle mini USB cable at some point and make it tidier but, I can't see it from the driving seat which is my main thing.

Cheers Fubar. Did you take the cover off the A pillar or just tuck the cable behind it? If it needs to come off is it just a case of giving it a tug or is there a knack to getting it off ( without breaking any clips etc)

it just pulls away, no issues - I used Fubar's guide exactly, and it is perfect - very straightforward to do and completely tidy afterwards.

Just be aware of the single screw behind the plastic cover near the top. And the fact that some cars have an airbag there. It doesn't get in the way at all but helps to know.

I didn't remove it totally, just pulled it away on the side of the door and was able to push the cable into the cavity so it wasn't being pinched.

On mine there is a little plastic cover three quarters of the way up. There is a screw behind there on mine. I think anyway, you have me doubting now!!! Maybe its only if you have an airbag?
