VRS failed mot! :(

Featured Replies

My car failed its MOT today, gutted!

Rear brake caliper not working efficiently, so I've ordered a pair of these - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281169705181?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

Outer drive-shaft boot split, ordered one of these - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/140693474433?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

Third thing is the rear driver's door, can't get it to open at all, and that's now a fail under the new MOT regs!

It has intermittently opened over the last few months, but probably hasn't opened at all for the last 6 weeks, is there an easy fix to get it through its MOT? Cheers. :)

PS, it's a 2006 VRS estate if that makes any difference...

getting rear door open is a pita buddy.

You might be lucky and be able to bang the door handle whilst someone uses remote to free up the locking mechanism

If not, you have to remove the interior door panel which is a little tricky as some screws are hidden due to door is shut and then get to the locking mechanism and force the lock open.

Cheers, had a feeling it wasn't going to be simple, lol!

search the forum, there are lots of posts about doors including some recently that advise how best to open.

Its usually deadlocked.

The wires from the rear door pass to the 'B' pillar. Remove the trim and jiggle the wires around whilst trying to open the door. You might get lucky.

Check you have power and ground.

Right, rear calipers and driveshaft boot arrived and getting fitted tomorrow, father in law's got the door skin off and just about to take a hammer and chisel to the lock, lol!

Can someone point me in the right direction for a replacement mechanism and let me know exactly what I'll need please? Gonna try and get it through the MOT as it is, as long as the door opens and closes for now, but it will need repairing properly sooner rather than later too. Cheers.

Have you checked the wiring to the door?

If you have power rear windows, does the window work when the door doesn't?

Yeah, power to the rear window and locking mechanism, window works, lock sometimes tries to!
