They aren't factory fitted options when you fit them yourself when the car is X numbers of years old.

 

Then I wouldn't be surprised if you asked your insurer and they said you should declare them.

 

So anyway, has anyone declared HIDs to their insurer, or asked about fitting them and what did they say?

I went through a lot of lamps when I put the Depo lenses on my Fabia. Some looked patchy, colour was an issue between two lamps and some died prematurely. A few where from hids4u and the like, while some came from ebay. In the end I picked up some oem non retail packaged 43000k philips lamps much cheaper. The difference was literally night and day for me purely on a lamp level.
