How to get right-side speakers working when playing a CD?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have recently acquired an Octavia Estate (combi) of model year 1998.  The car is in excellent condition.  Our only disappointment to date is the discovery that the car's right-side speakers (front and rear) stop working when we switch from listening to the radio to playing a CD.  (Switch back from playing a CD to the radio and all speakers come alive again.)

Is there simple (or not so simple) fix to get all four speakers working while playing a CD ?

As I recall, the radio is marked only "Skoda Symphony MP3"

Thanks.

There is obviously a bad connection between the CD changer and the head unit. It could either be at the head unit itself, or one of the connectors buried underneath the CD changer. Probably find it's corroded under the CD changer, since there is a rear wiper pipe joiner down there that has a tendency to pop apart and wee fluid everywhere.

My Audi does the same sometimes, and a quick thump on the dash gets it working again.

OP your problem could be one of two things.

1) Loose connection on the back of the headunit, simply unplugging it and plugging it in again may fix it. (Check you have radio code before doing this).

OR

2) Water has got into the connector behind the carpet in the boot and corroded the terminals, leading to failure of the connection.

Thanks demonufo and mannyo for your suggestions.

I see now, though, that I skipped mentioning that this unit does not have CD changer.  Rather, it has just the single CD slot directly above the display.

@mannyo: might simply unplugging it and plugging it in again still fix it?  (I'll take a look for the code.  The previous owner didn't mention it but did give me some documents.)

Oh, in that case your head unit has an internal fault. Either a buffer transistor from the CD player, or just a trace broken. Either way, it is irrepairable I'm afraid. :(

Symphony HU is rubbish.

You now have a good excuse to put a decent head unit in.
