How long to bed in brakes

Featured Replies

Just fitted new discs and pads to the front of my Octavia.

Having been out for a test run, one side seems to be braking on just the outer 1cm of the disc surface and the other side has the same but also an annoying squeek once each revolution.

I'm assuming the squeek will go and the pads will start biting the whole disc once they have bedded in.

But how many miles is this going to take?

They're Skoda discs and Lucas pads.

Might be the pads - but of course, I would blame them wouldn't I ;) I hope the corrosion all wears off p.d.q.

Cheers Jason, the discs cleaned up easily with a wire brush - the painted letters/numbers required a flat screw driver though ;)

The old pads were so badly worn, the inside one was fully metal to metal, no pad material what so ever!

Oh, the classic "BA" - Its all over my engine and components too! :grumpy: Gonna have to take a screwdriver to mine in a fair few places when its next on the four post lift. :)

The lumps of mud in the vent slots were ammusing too!

Don't get me started on the mud thing - I swear some of the bits I got had been rolling around in a yard or something. I do believe though that those discs remained attached to the hub / bearing assembly whilst being removed & shipped to me. :)

We've digressed a little here - how many miles to bed this lot in ??

We did didn't we.... :o soz. :)

I would say to take it easy for 200+ miles? Thats about the time I'll be giving my new 312s to bed in before trying them properly.

Yeah about 200 - that was the mileage advice I was given last time I had a set fitted to a car (OEM discs/DS2500 pads).
