Trouble with my new Canon Powershot A70

Featured Replies

There seems to be a problem - either with my photo taking skills or with the actual camera. Anything with white in the picture seems to make a terrible photo. Close ups are much better than distance although go too close and thats no good either.

Have a look and see if anyone knows what I could be doing wrong.

Cheers

Did a quick google and came to this page... sounds like it could be the camera that's at fault, not you.

If it's still under warranty, take it back and get a replacement...

Hmmm..... several people on here (including myself) have this camera. Mine very occasionaly has the lines people speak about on that review site but I diddnt realise it was such a problem :( They all seem to be saying that it packs up after 2 years. Mine is 18month old and has just started to show the signs of imminent failure :(

Sorry for recommending the A70 - it seems its not so great after all :(

the a85 hasnt had any of these problems swap for that one

Oh gosh, mine's 21 months old now. No problems yet and I think I have the extended warranty with Jessops...

Fingers crossed.

Step 1.

Auto white balance (AWB) is incorrect. Is your top dial in AUTO or some other? Set camera to shoot and press FUNC until you see a row of symbols on the left vertical side. Second one down should say AWB, otherwise its been set to Manual...

Thanks everyone for taking the trouble to investigate my problems. How annoying that I did loads of searching on the internet before buying and didn't find anything to put me off the camera then. Only now do I start to find all the posts about problems.

Goochie-not your fault mate, already just about decided on it when I posted the thread.

Have e-mailed the seller so will await the outcome. Hope there's no probs.

Cheeky-is that the camera you had at Brunters?

Bugger, damn, **** and sod -first I choose AOL now I choose Canon!

I would just like to add that I have had my Canon powershot a70 for well over two years and have not had one single problem with it. It's still as good as it was the day I purchased it. I am either:

a) lucky (not likely as I have never won the lottery)

or

B) one of very few, who looks after things they have bought.

Canon make cracking camera's and I wouldnt hesitate to buy a canon again.

p.s. back luck on the aol. Although they are reliable if you dont use their software. The only real problem is getting disconnected from them. :D

Problem resolved. Notified seller of faulty camera and he told me to return it immediately for a replacement. I asked if I could replace it with a differnt model and he offered an upgrade to an A80 at no extra charge plus pay for postage for returning A70! I sent it back last Monday morning and got replacement on Wednesday (yesterday)

This camera has no purple lines/drips or any other problem that I can tell so far.

Very pleased with the way seller dealt with the problem.

Here's a few from first go - not had much time to play about yet
