Glow plugs light flashing

Featured Replies

Hi, not been on here for ages no need car has been great, however nowI have a problem the glow plug light comes on intermittently on the overrun when slowing from about 75 mph, turning the ignition off clears the light at no time does it go into limp mode.

Car is a 2010 1.6 diesel has done 55000 miles.

Any thoughts, TIA

brake peddle switch?

need a vagcom scan to confirm the exact reason for the glowplug light, but you will probably need the light flashing to register a fault code code

I don't see it being a brake light switch as it come on just on the overrun no brakes applied, yep I know it needs to

be there to register a fault, just thought someone might have an idea

Fault now sorted, it turned out to be the alternator clutch one new alternator and all is well

Yes I've noticed a few threads relating to alternator clutches and in my ignorance Id never heard of them despite doing my own servicing.

Therefore I found this video informative.

Wish I had seen that video before now as I was told you had to replace the whole alternator.

Dont beat your self up over it that's just cars for you.

If mine had failed I would have done exactly the same thing, thinking it was all one unit, not knowing any different.

Very useful to know and something to keep in mind for the future.

Pragmatix, Bobspark; thank you both for posting.

Getting the pulley off can be a right fit. One I did I left soaking overnight in proper penetrating oil and I still had to put a scaffolding pole over the breaker bar with the alternator strapped to the bench to get it off. Obviously a windy gun would have helped.
