Changing the stereo... What are the factory

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Subscription on my TomTom has run out again. and I'm considering selling it and getting a replacement headunit for the VRS. I've got most of the options ticked on mine, and I think a factory fit Nav would finish things off nicely. That way it can make use of the factory fit MDI, Steering Wheel Controls, Bluetooth and MFD on the dash.

I've been looking online and it looks like the Amundsen+ (RNS315) is the best 'normal' Fabia VRS model, and would just need a GPS aerial as an additional extra.

Is this the case, or is there a DAB Skoda model that I can fit with minimal hassle. Would consider retrofitting parking sensors/camera if they can be plugged in too.

anyone?

I looked at this Conanius - my wife's Golf has a VAG unit, with DAB and bluetooth connection.  no idea what model number, but it has colour touchscreen, which I think is the RNS315+ (Amundsen +) as you say.

I did ask a while back and some helpful members said bluetooth would need to be plumbed in for the stereo button to work (my Monte is not bluetooth enabled) and the DAB would need a DAB aerial behind the head unit.

Then I looked at cost...not sure whether I was keeping the car, so a £300+ outlay didn't seem worthwhile - I bought a £10 universal phone holder, still use the fairly pants handsfree headphones that came with the phone and struggle with my TomTom not being updated for 7 years (according to it, I frequently drive through fields...).  But until I KNOW I'm keeping it (decision will be made around Christmas time), then I'm not forking out on expensive accessories.

Some of the newer Amundsen + units have built in Bluetooth and DAB, although it may be easier to obtain a VW unit RNS315 as mentioned above -the only difference really being red lights behind the keys and a different theme on the graphics of the unit itself.

You could change the roof aerial on your car to include DAB and GPS -it's fairly straight forwards on a Fabia, but you will have to partially drop the headliner to do this, but when finished, externally you would have a totally OEM look. I can provide you with instructions and part umbers if you require. However the usual disclaimer about doing this at your own risk applies!
