Timing Settings 'Sweet Spot'?

Featured Replies

Just set up my timing on my pd130, tolerances were so far out according to vagcom and i had idle wobble, since adjusted it and magically got it blob on 0.

I have heard though that there is a sweet spot for tolerance that is best, something like +3.3?

tolerances recommend + or - 3.

Is there an ideal? does anyone have any first hand info on best. Mine is the 5 speed awx engine but believe the timing principles to be the same.

Thanks

Once you get the timing 'Spot On' and changed the air filter, switch everything off, disconnect the battery for 30 minutes, then re-start without touching the pedals and leave to idle for 30 minutes, you will then see a big difference.

DB.

I can't say that there is a sweet spot of X degrees; experience with other engines suggests that there is a timing sweet spot for any engine, and it may vary.

I suppose it depends on wear in engine and other variables
