LED lighting in the boot!

Featured Replies

My seat very rarely moves. .... no one else gets to drive it!

Interior light is pretty easy to remove. I pulled the whole thing out by accident when trying to remove just the cover. Easiest way I found was to pull off the plastic lens as if changing the bulb and then pull the light housing out using the same method, starting at the edge closest to the windscreen.

Okey Dokey, sounds fairly easy then! my seats are on the move constantly with the wife! she has to sit with her head on the roof and her knees on the dash! she then has the cheek to leave it like that so i cant get in when i go to drive!

Im thinking of putting foot well lighting in the rear but place it on the under edge of the rear seat facing forward, if that makes sense?

Also to minimise cables entering the light unit ill be joining the cable away from the light unit. i.e the foot well light cables will cut and splice in to the rear roof liner light, the roof liner light will cut and splice in to the puddle lights along with the front foot well lights. that way there's only 2 cables going in to the light unit instead of 8!

im going to draw my wiring loom plan later, ill take a picture and upload it here.

A picture would be good. ...

I don't have a light in the rear of my car so it's all going to have to come from the front. I plan to run one wire down each A pillar then split them off under the dash with a trial of splicing! That way I will have 2 wires from the front light each would go to an LED strip under the dash then an extension to the door and to the rear, door extension would end with the LED strip as puddle light rear extension would end with LED in rear foot well. And possibly, if there is the right position I want a strip high up at the back at the back of the head liner where it meets the boot. One from each side meeting at the middle.

I will tap into each map light so when the doors open they both come on but I also have control of each side if needed.

I hope ive said that clearly, it works in my head!

Yep my car, as an estate, dosent have the rear head light either.

Your going with the same plan as me, wire eaxh side in to the corresponding light up front this means , like you said, full control on lights being on and off seperately.

Ill get a drawing done. That should make it all clear! Lol

The rear seat bases are on swivel hinge arms, they pull forward and then rotate down into the footwell - that would be something to take into consideration for placing them under the seat bases, facing forward.

In my Monte, with the black interior trim, darkened windows and dark(ish) seats, it is pretty gloomy back there.  Luckily, we don't do long journeys in it with the kids in the back, so no need yet for lights, but maybe in the future.

Yep, im planning to mount them to the carpeted bit just below the seat. Not on the actual seat or frame. Ill have a more in depth look later.

It is very odd why they never put lights in the back!

Thanks PD, not being with the car I couldn't remember.

So, how are you thinking of securing the strips to the carpet? The sticky back wouldn't hold I shouldn't think.

Change of plan again, just been looking at the car. the rear foot well lights im going to place along the outer edge of the foot well. in the rubber seal.

also looked on front passenger side, it has the same access panel as the rear driver side so should be easy enough to get the wire in and through the rubber tunnel in to the door then out the bottom.

Time to get some photos of the planned areas and also a drawing done for the wiring loom that im planning.

I noticed that the light unit in the front is screwed to the roof once you remove the plastic lens. still thinking on how to get the wires in to the light box. need a better look at it really.

Im also going to buy some LED bulbs to replace the incandescent ones in the roof light other wise its going to look odd!

I already have LED upgrades in the interior it does make a huge difference.

All this talk really makes me wish I had the car with me!

I'm going to make a few drawings over the next few days for some ideas then roll on next weekend when I can get started.

Still not sure about placement though.

I used slightly thicker wire than standard speaker cable in the boot, think I will stick with that wire again this time. ... even though it's 3p a Meyer more expensive haha.
