New owner, Coolant light?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Just bought a SKODA FABIA S 12V 1198cc PETROL 2011, for my partner to go to work and back (about 3 miles). Liked it so

much I would like one with a larger engine in diesel.

About once a day the coolant light goes on, and then off. The coolant is full, the dealership reckoned it was because the coolant was overfull. Its not by much. Any ideas?

If I was to want Skoda to look at it as its still covered by warrentee, do I go to a local skoda dealership?

Sorry for the idiot questions, I'm more used to having cars that are 13-15 years old.

Thanks Dean

Get him to prove his theory by reducing the coolant to the right level !!

For warranty work you will have to use a Skoda dealer, unless you don't mind paying yourself.

Which light is it, the red or the blue one? The blue is normal for the first few minutes until the engine is warm.

Thanks Keitht, its the blue one, does that mean I should let it warm up or just not hammer it up to 60mph right away? As I live next to a main road

The blue light, if I am thinking of the correct one, is the temperature. It comes on when you start up. warm the engine by driving modestly until it goes out and then you should be fine to give it some welly. If the red one comes on, its getting too hot! This could be not enough coolant or driving too hard. The light I am refering to looks like a thermometer.

Never seen the red one, never had the blue one flicker on/0ff, only on when engine is cold.

I was wondering the same after moving up from a 51 reg peugeot to an 11 reg Fabia a few more things have gone digital and there is no temperature gauge, I looked in the book and it says it goes off when it reaches running temperature, which it does so there shouldn't be anything to worry about there.
